🎃🚔 HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM YOUR LOCAL CHP! 👻

The only thing scarier than a haunted house? Seeing those red and blue lights in your rearview mirror! 🚨👀

This Halloween, we’re reminding everyone to slow down, stay alert, and watch for little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes crossing the street. 🧙‍♀️🦸‍♂️ Kids can be unpredictable, costumes can limit visibility, and excitement can make them forget to look both ways.

🕸️ A few tricks to keep Halloween a treat:

🎃 Slow down in residential neighborhoods.

👻 Put the phone away and keep your eyes on the road.

🍬 Never drive impaired — plan a safe ride home.

🦺 Make sure trick-or-treaters are visible to drivers.

Have a safe, spooky, and fun Halloween! From all of us at Clear Lake CHP, we hope your night is full of treats and free of tricks!

🚔 Drive safely. Celebrate responsibly. Get home safe.

On October 20, 2026, Mendocino College hosted a Criminal Justice Career Academy for 24 students representing four high schools within the college district.

The California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area spoke with students about careers in law enforcement, provided a tour of their newest patrol vehicle, and highlighted its many features. Lt. Fansler also answered a wide range of questions, from the qualifications needed to become an officer to legal alcohol limits and more. It was a great day that allowed students to envision themselves pursuing a career in Lake County.

Also in attendance were Lake County Probation, Lake County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, and Print Your Mitts, a fingerprinting business in Ukiah.

A huge thank you to Pamela Heston Bechtol and her K12 partner Megan Tunzi for providing our youth with positive interactions with local law enforcement.

🚲 Bike Rodeo at Lucerne Elementary School! 🚔

A big thank you to Lucerne Elementary School for inviting our CHP officer to participate in their Bike Rodeo!

Events like these provide a great opportunity to connect with students while teaching important bicycle safety skills. From wearing a properly fitted helmet to following traffic laws and being aware of their surroundings, learning safe riding habits at a young age can make a lasting difference.

We appreciate the school’s commitment to keeping our young riders safe and giving us the opportunity to be part of such a great event!

Remember: Wear your helmet, follow the rules of the road, and always ride safely! 🚴‍♀️

Press Release: 🚨 CHP SEEKS TIPS IN 2023 LAKE COUNTY HOMICIDE 🚨

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol’s Northern Division Major Crimes Unit is seeking the public’s help in solving a 2023 homicide on State Route 29.

At about 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2023, CHP dispatchers received a report that a man with blood on his face was waving his arms and trying to flag down vehicles on SR-29 north of Hofacker Lane in Lower Lake. Another caller reported that the man was lying near the highway, bleeding from the head. A third caller reported hearing gunshots in the area.

Emergency responders found the man, later identified as Andrew Gurrola, 33, of Lake County, dead at the scene. Evidence and an autopsy determined that Gurrola died from gunshot wounds.

Nearly three years into the investigation, investigators have neither identified a suspect nor recovered the fi***rm used in the killing.

“There is no tolerance for acts of violence like this in California,” said Chief Andrew Poyner, commander of the CHP Northern Division. “Those responsible for Andrew Gurrola’s death must be held accountable. Our Major Crimes Unit is diligently pursuing this investigation.”

Anyone with information about Gurrola’s killing, the identity of the person responsible, or the location of the fi***rm is asked to contact the CHP Northern Division at (916)268-2282 or CHP Ukiah Communications Center at (707)467-4000 or email [email protected]. Callers should reference case No. F013-107-23.

The CHP Northern Division's Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.

October is School Bus Safety Awareness Month, and the California Highway Patrol reminds drivers to stay alert and watch for children traveling to and from school.

🚨 Remember these important safety tips:

🛑 Stop for flashing red lights. When a school bus activates its flashing red lights and stop arm, drivers must stop as required by law to allow children to safely enter or exit the bus.

👀 Watch for children. Kids may be unpredictable near bus stops and school zones. Always slow down and stay alert.

📵 Avoid distractions. Keep your eyes on the road, especially during school drop-off and pick-up hours.

🚸 Follow school zone speed limits. Slow down and be prepared to stop when children are present.

Half of October may be behind us, but our responsibility to protect students never takes a day off. Let’s work together to make sure every child gets to and from school safely!

🚔 The California Highway Patrol reminds you: Drive carefully. Stop for the bus. Protect our kids.

One impaired driver can change or end a life in an instant. To help prevent these tragedies, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is mobilizing uniformed personnel statewide for a targeted enforcement effort to keep impaired drivers off California roads. Drivers should plan ahead, arrange a sober ride and never get behind the wheel while impaired.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, and continuing through 5:59 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, all uniformed CHP personnel will participate in a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP). During the MEP, officers will increase their presence on California roads and focus on identifying and stopping impaired drivers.
