The grad night party is time-honored tradition. 30 years on and mine is still a core memory. The night is also a ton of work for the POGS volunteers. Here's a stark reminder why we do it:
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) highlights that prom and graduation season are the most dangerous times for teens, with roughly one-third of alcohol-related teen fatalities occurring between April and June; teens are nearly 3 times more likely to die in a crash, and while many teens (around 30%) plan to drink or ride with someone impaired, a significant majority fear getting in trouble more than the crash risk. There is a significant spike in crashes/fatalities following prom night and graduation night parties. Even if your teen is partying responsibly-the roads are less safe for everybody.
Please buy your student a ticket so they can celebrate with friends safely--it's about so much more than fun.
