Ever wanted to learn more about the origins of Samhain? Many of us are familiar with Halloween and all the spooky fun associated with it. But did you know that Halloween’s origins come from Samhain? Pronounced SAH-win or SOW-win, Samhain is connected to a number of different cultures, it is often denoted as a festival that marks the end of the harvest season.
Celebrated between October 31st and November 1st, Samhain is acknowledged as a time where we can more easily connect and honor our ancestors or people we’ve lost over the years. It’s also a time to reflect and think about how we’d like to settle into the winter months, slow down, and embrace the darker time of the year.
Join us, Wednesday, October 28th at 6:30PM, for a fun and relaxing evening (we’ll even have a cozy fire going in our fireplace!). We will discuss the history of Samhain, as well as set an intention and something we’d like to release for the year. We’ll go over some other ways to celebrate Samhain too, including meditation, food and crafts, and ways you can honor your ancestors or passed loved ones. Hope to see you there!
This event is free and wheelchair accessible. Kennebunk Free Library is located at 112 Main St., Kennebunk.
