It is with heavy hearts that the Kenner Discovery family mourns the loss of Leah Fonte, class of 2023, who passed away in a tragic accident along with her fiancé, Shane.

During Leah’s time at Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, she poured herself into her school community. She served as a Freshman Academy Mentor and was a member of HOSA - Future Healthcare Professionals, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, and Student Council, and she was also the captain of our Dance Team. She graduated Cum Laude, completing our Biomedical pathway, and earned Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and Certified Emergency Medical Responder credentials while still in high school.

Leah’s care for others reached well beyond our walls. Last November, she partnered with us to collect donations for her trip to Panama with the Global Dental Brigades Club, where she helped bring free dental care and supplies to underserved communities. A senior at LSU, she dreamed of becoming an orthodontist and was well on her way to a lifetime of serving others through health care.

Leah embodied what it means to lead with HEART. Her special soul is part of Discovery and will live on in our hearts forever.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Leah and Shane’s families and friends.

Once a Swamp Owl, always a Swamp Owl. We love you, Leah. 💚💙

Check out the "Pumpkin Fun for Everyone" contest at our Lower School Campus. Students chose one of their favorite book characters and then decorated a pumpkin as that character. We received 117 pumpkins!!! Students and teachers will be voting for their favorite. We are so proud of all of our little pumpkins and look forward to doing some more fun family projects throughout the year!
