On 10/16/26 a male called in to KPD about some interesting property he had recently received from an elderly family member. The male thought they may be collectible inert mu*****ns but after some research and an abundance of caution, the male contacted KPD. Yakima EOD was contacted and confirmed the rounds were live. The mu*****ns were retrieved by the Yakima EOD to be destroyed.

There have been various instances of collectors assuming memorabilia such as these are inert or simply not real. Please contact KPD if you have items like this in your possession and we can get the correct resources to confirm if there is danger or not.

We are happy there were no injuries and no property damaged! We appreciate the male calling in even if it meant he lost out on some cool looking historical pieces!

Following up on our earlier post about the vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision near N Kellogg St. and W Metaline, we wanted to share a positive update.

We are incredibly grateful that the 1-year-old child involved in this collision is okay. While we know this was a frightening experience for the family, the crash destroyed their stroller.

After responding to the scene and completing their investigation, our officers wanted to do something to help. They arranged to purchase a new stroller for the family, made possible through the KPD Foundation Community Care Fund.

Our officers serve this community in many ways, and sometimes that service means stepping up to help a family in a small but meaningful way after a difficult day.

We are thankful the child is okay, grateful for the opportunity to support this family, and proud to be part of a community that cares for one another.

Vehicle vs. Pedestrian

On 10/15/2026 at approximately 1:24pm, officers were dispatched to the area of N Kellogg St & W Metaline for a vehicle that struck a stroller with a 1-year old child in it being pushed by their mother. The pedestrians were using a marked crosswalk with alert beacons.

The driver was cooperative and remained on scene.

The mother and child were evaluated on scene by KFD and transported to the hospital for further medical examination. Fortunately, the child is in stable condition with no life threatening injuries. The mother is okay as well.

Through investigation it was determined the driver was not impaired and speed didn’t play a factor. The driver failed to see/yield for the pedestrian.

The driver was subsequently cited for Negligent Driving in the 2nd Degree.

This is a great reminder to always be vigilant of pedestrian traffic and the pedestrian crosswalk beacons, which will illuminate yellow when people are crossing.

ARREST – Assault in the First Degree

Last night, officers responded to a reported fight in the 3200 block of West Kennewick Avenue. Shortly before officers arrived, the caller reported that one of the people involved had a gun. Officers contacted and detained 34-year-old Lee Mintz of Kennewick.

Based on statements from victims and video from the area, officers determined that a dispute between two women in the parking lot had escalated into a physical altercation. One of the women, Dwanna Mims, left the location and returned a short time later with her boyfriend, Mintz.

Mintz allegedly approached the group, pulled a handgun from his pocket, pointed it at a man, and pulled the trigger. The fi***rm did not discharge.

Officers arrived as Mintz lowered the fi***rm. Mintz and Mims allegedly ran to a vehicle just outside the officers’ view and hid the handgun inside before officers contacted and detained them. Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, recovered a handgun, and collected it as evidence.

Mintz, a convicted felon, was arrested for Assault in the First Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Fi***rm. Mims was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree – Domestic Violence and Rendering Criminal Assistance. Both were booked into the Benton County Jail.
