🎃👻 HAPPY HALLOWEEN, KENOSHA COUNTY! 👻🎃

Before your little ghosts, superheroes, and princesses head out for treats today, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office has a few friendly safety reminders:

🔦 Be seen! Carry flashlights or glow sticks and add reflective tape to costumes and candy bags.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Stay together. Young children should have an adult along. Older children should travel in groups, follow an agreed-upon route, and have a set time to return home.

🚶 Walk safely. Use sidewalks, cross at intersections or crosswalks, and look in all directions before crossing. Never dart between parked cars.

🦸 Check those costumes. Make sure children can see clearly and walk without tripping over masks, capes, or long costumes.

🏠 Choose your stops carefully. Visit homes with porch lights on, and remind children never to enter an unfamiliar home or vehicle.

🍬 Check the treats. Have an adult inspect candy before eating it and discard anything unwrapped or with damaged packaging.

🚗 DRIVERS: Slow down, put your phone away, and watch closely for children—especially near intersections, driveways, and parked vehicles.

Have fun, look out for one another, and help everyone get home safely! 🧡

🚨 NATIONAL MOVE OVER DAY 🚨

Every person working along our roads deserves to make it home safely.

Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, highway department crews, tow truck operators, utility workers, and other roadside professionals work just feet away from passing traffic. Whether they are helping someone in an emergency, clearing a crash, or maintaining our roads, their safety depends on the decisions you make behind the wheel.

They are mothers, fathers, spouses, sons, daughters, friends, and neighbors. They have people counting on them and waiting for them to come home.

On National Move Over Day, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office joins our partners in asking you to help protect everyone who works along our roads.

When approaching a stopped emergency or roadside service vehicle with its warning lights flashing:

➡️ MOVE OVER. If there are two or more lanes traveling in your direction, safely move out of the lane closest to the stopped vehicle.

➡️ SLOW DOWN. If you cannot safely move over, or there is only one lane in your direction, reduce your speed.

➡️ STAY ALERT. Put the phone down, watch for people outside their vehicles, and give them room to work.

Remember to give stranded motorists space, too.

Protect those who protect you. Help them make it home.

Please share this reminder. Your next decision behind the wheel could save a life.

🐾 Watch K9 Riv put his training to work!

This edited body camera video shows Deputy Booth and K9 Riv searching the corn maze at Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm following the Oct. 9 weapons complaint. (see earlier press release)

Watch as Riv follows the subject’s scent through the maze, locating an empty magazine and then the discarded handgun among the corn stalks. With Deputy Booth guiding the search, Riv’s keen nose helped deputies recover both items from an area visited by children and families.

Training, trust and teamwork are at the heart of what our K9 teams do. This video gives you a firsthand look at that partnership in action.

Thank you to the alert witnesses, farm staff, security personnel and responding deputies who worked together throughout this incident.

Outstanding work, Deputy Booth and K9 Riv. Good boy, Riv! 🐾

NEWS RELEASE

DATE: October 12, 2026
EVENT: Fi***rm Recovered at Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm
LOCATION: Kenosha County, WI
RELEASED BY: Lt. Chase Forster - Public Information Officer

Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm, 7150 18th St., at approximately 8:03 p.m. Oct. 9 after witnesses reported seeing a juvenile handling a handgun inside the corn maze. Witnesses left the maze and alerted farm staff.

Farm Security personnel reported that the juvenile fled when they approached him. Security detained him as he attempted to leave the grounds, and deputies took him into custody upon arrival. During the investigation, the juvenile, 16 years old, acknowledged possessing the handgun and told deputies he had discarded it in the maze while fleeing.

Farm staff cleared the corn maze while Deputy Booth and his K9 partner, Riv, searched for the fi***rm. Riv tracked the juvenile’s route through the corn maze and located an empty 30-round magazine. Minutes later, Riv located a handgun nearby. Riv’s work allowed deputies to recover both items from among the corn stalks.

The recovered weapon was a 9 mm handgun. The handgun was unloaded, and the magazine contained no am******on.

Deputies also recovered a v**e pen belonging to the juvenile. A field test of its contents indicated the presence of THC.

The Sheriff’s Office has requested the following charges:

- Disorderly conduct while armed.
- Carrying a concealed weapon.
- Possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18.
- Possession of THC.

At the direction of Kenosha County Juvenile Court Intake, the juvenile was released to a parent with housing restrictions. His name is not being released because he is a juvenile.

“This incident shows the value of teamwork between alert community members, event security and our deputies,” Sheriff David Zoerner said. “Deputy Booth and K9 Riv did outstanding work locating the discarded fi***rm and helping ensure it did not remain in an area visited by children and families. Gun safety starts with responsible ownership, secure storage and preventing unauthorized access. We remain committed to keeping fi***rms out of the wrong hands and getting illegally possessed guns off our streets.”

This incident remains under investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.
