When you call 911, you expect expertly trained personnel, a reliable apparatus with effective equipment and a quick response. Maintaining that level of service anywhere requires continued investment from the community.

We have already shown the numbers that outline our call volume increases, our need for staffing increases as an effect and a small explanation of what it takes to keep our vehicles ready for when they are needed. Along with those expenses, there are many other ways that your money keeps you and our personnel safe when emergencies arise.

As our community grows and emergency calls increase, so do the demands placed on our personnel, equipment, and resources. We believe our residents deserve clear, accurate information about how their fire department operates, where funding goes, and what it takes to provide emergency services around the clock. Our goal is to help every resident make an informed decision at the ballot box.

Thank you and stay safe, Brimfield.

Happy Saturday Brimfield!
We have had a few questions on EMS billing lately and we wanted to share some information that our residents may not know.

In Brimfield township, if you are a resident and you call 911 for emergency medical services, you will be introduced to a reimbursement system called soft billing.

The most likely example is that we perform a billable EMS service, like a transport to the hospital. After we have provided you with the needed emergency medical care and have taken you to where you need to go, we will send the bill to your private insurance company, Medicare or Medicaid. We will then receive a set amount depending on your policy, plan or coverage. Then, the bill ends there. Our residents are not responsible for any payment after this, even if you have mistakenly been sent a bill by your insurance company.

This allows us to recover a portion of the costs that enabled us to operate and provide care to you. The remainder of the cost is already paid for and calculated in the levies. This allows you, the resident, to forget the stress of EMS billing and focus your energy on your health and feeling better.

We hope this clears a few things up for those that asked how our billing system works. If you have any more questions, we have another open house on Saturday October 17th, 9:00- 10:00 AM. We hope to see you there.

Thank you and stay safe, Brimfield.

In September's Monthly Report it shows that we ran 165 calls and are up 25 calls from last year. Keeping close track of these numbers allows us to create trends in call volume and help us prepare for the future of the department.

In the past week and in the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing information about our staffing, call volumes, equipment, operational costs, and the resources required to provide emergency services to Brimfield Township. We are providing this information with one goal in mind: Education. Our wish is to give light to critical information that most of us don't think about regarding the fire department.

When you call 911, you expect our firefighters and paramedics to arrive quickly, safely, and with the equipment needed to handle your emergency.

But behind every emergency response is something our community may not often think about: the age and reliability of the vehicles we depend on every day.

As a fire apparatus ages, maintaining it becomes increasingly challenging. Replacement parts are harder to locate, repairs can and will become more expensive, and unexpected mechanical failures can affect the availability of these critical vehicles.

Today, a new engine would run a department well over a million dollars. Eventually when the time comes that we will need to replace an apparatus, it won’t be as simple as purchasing a new vehicle off the lot. It requires years of planning, budgeting and also requires funds to be set aside to equip the apparatus before it can be placed in service.

With the upcoming fire levy on the November ballot, we believe our residents deserve a clear understanding of the challenges facing their fire department.

This post is not intended to suggest that our equipment is unsafe or that our firefighters cannot perform their duties. Our personnel work diligently to inspect, maintain, and operate our apparatus. However, proper maintenance cannot stop the aging process, and planning for future equipment needs is essential to maintaining dependable emergency services.

We want our community to have the facts, understand the challenges, and make an informed decision this November.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about YOUR Brimfield Fire Department.
