Mae Foos was located early this morning, and she was returned safely to her family.

This was truly a community wide effort to make sure Mae was returned home safely.

I would like to first thank all of our amazing community members and volunteers who rallied and assisted in the efforts to locate Mae.

I would also like to thank all of the following partner agencies that came to our community’s aid. The Weld County Regional Communications Center, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, the Kersey Police Department, the Weld County Office of Emergency Management, Colorado Search and Rescue, the Greeley Fire Department, Windsor Severance Fire Rescue, the Galeton Fire Protection District, the Briggsdale Fire Protection District, the Ault-Pierce Fire Department, the LaSalle Fire Protection District, and the Evans Fire Protection District.

Lastly, I want to thank the members of the Platte Valley Fire Protection District. I witnessed the compassionate, talented, professional, and resourceful members of our fire district come together and bring calm to the chaos. I am honored to be a member of the Platte Valley Fire Protection District and to have the opportunity to work beside all of you!

Today, the Platte Valley Fire Protection District pauses to honor and remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11th, including 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Though 25 years have passed, the memory of that day — and the bravery shown by first responders and citizens alike — remains deeply etched in our hearts and in the fire service community.

As firefighters, we carry forward their legacy with every call, every act of service, and every moment we choose courage over fear.

On this solemn anniversary, we recommit ourselves to the values that unite us: duty, honor, and service. We stand with our brothers and sisters across the country in remembering the fallen, supporting the survivors, and never forgetting the lessons of that day.

We will never forget.

Greeley Fire Department is family.

When we lose one of our own, the impact is felt far beyond the station. It’s felt by the crews who have trained alongside you, answered calls with you, shared meals, stories, and long days with you, and stood beside you when the job was at its hardest.

Today, we stand beside our brothers and sisters at Greeley Fire Department. We honor the life, service, sacrifice, and dedication of your firefighter, and we hope you know that you don’t have to walk through the days ahead alone. Your fire family is here.

To his family, his crew, and all those who knew and loved him—we are holding you in our hearts.

Rest easy, brother. Your service mattered. Your life mattered. You will not be forgotten.

With love and deepest sympathy.

Happy One-Year Work Anniversary to Firefighter/Paramedics Smith & Shumberger!

We’re celebrating one year with two incredible additions to the Platte Valley Fire family! Smith and Shumberger have been great additions to our department and district, bringing their education, experience, and personalities to our team. They have each made a positive impact in their short time with us, and we’re grateful to have them as part of the Platte Valley family.

While we celebrate two anniversaries, we also say goodbye to Firefighter Tyler Hice as he steps away from his part-time position with Platte Valley.

Tyler has been a part of Platte Valley since 2006, when he originally joined as a volunteer. He was offered a full-time position in 2008 and promoted to Captain in 2010. Throughout his years with Platte Valley, Tyler became one of the most influential Captains our department has had.

Tyler shared his passion for the fire service, inspired those around him, and helped shape the people and culture of our organization. His impact on Platte Valley will be felt for years to come, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

Tyler is now serving full-time with Greeley Fire, and while we will certainly miss having him on our roster, we know Greeley is in good hands with Tyler on shift!

Thank you for your service and dedication, Tyler. And thank you, Ben and Brandon, for one great year with Platte Valley! We’re lucky to have you all on our team.

This past Saturday, June 27, three wildland firefighters lost their lives, and two others were seriously injured while responding to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. These brave men and women answered the call to protect others, and today the entire fire service mourns alongside their families, friends, and fellow firefighters.

We stand with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service, the USDA Forest Service, and every firefighter carrying the weight of this tremendous loss. Their courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we move into a hot, dry stretch and the Fourth of July weekend, this tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly fire conditions can become dangerous. The same risks exist here at home. If you're celebrating this week, please use fireworks responsibly, extinguish all outdoor flames completely, and do your part to prevent accidental fires.

One small decision can make a big difference in protecting our community and the firefighters who risk their lives to keep us safe.

Please keep the families, crews, and everyone impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts. Take care of one another, and stay safe this week.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.
