Join UW-Madison Extension on December 4 at the Kaukauna Town Hall for Raising the Bar: Building Better Heifers, a free workshop for dairy producers and employees focused on practical strategies for raising healthy, productive replacement heifers. The program will include a summary of a recent Extension survey of dairy producer participants on the current cost of raising replacement heifers, findings from a year-long Wisconsin colostrum management study, and ways to identify feeding bottlenecks that may limit growth. Featured speaker Dr. Paul Fricke will discuss strategies to optimize heifer growth and reproduction. This event is FREE and lunch is generously provided by Parnell Livestock.

If you can't make it December 4, we have three other locations and dates to choose from. Registration is now open, so visit go.wisc.edu/RTB26 to register today!

Bill Roethle of Hillside Apples placed fourth in a recent giant pumpkin-growing competition. The 1,703-pounder will be on display outside the business until Sunday, Oct. 25, when Hillside closes for the season. Roethle said this year's effort was the heaviest pumpkin he's ever grown, and was the 11th biggest in the state out of three weigh-ins at the time. A 2,015-pounder took first place at the Falltoberfest weigh-in he attended in Fond du Lac.

Corn Grain Moisture Conversion Chart for 2026

The UW extension spreadsheet is very easy to use.

Simply:

1. Select the percent (%) moisture of the corn on the left-hand column.

2. Determine the value of dry corn at 15% by moving from left to right across the top of the spreadsheet.

3. Find where the two points intersect. This is your estimated value per ton.

Take a look at the Wisconsin frost prediction tool. Link is in the post below.

High chances of frost Friday night, as most of the state will see temperatures fall below 36° with light winds. This would be the first frost of the season for many!
