Community, we need YOU to help fill N. Main Street for the City of Keyser’s 2nd Annual Trunk-or-Treat! Registration is now open! 🎃

Are you a local business, church, organization, community group — or simply a kind-hearted person who wants to hand out candy and help make a kid’s night? We’d love to have you set up a trunk and join us!

📅 Tuesday, October 27, 2026 🕕 6:00–7:30 PM
📍 Downtown Keyser – N. Main Street
👉 Register to participate: https://bit.ly/KeyserTrunk

Registration is only required for those setting up a vehicle and handing out candy. Families attending the event do not need to register. Lineup for registered participants will begin promptly at 5:00 PM.

Know someone who should set up a trunk — or a family who definitely shouldn’t miss bringing the kids out? Tag ’em, help us spread the word, and let us know you’ll be coming on the event page. For the community, by the community!

We’ll be using as we count down to the event and throughout that evening — so keep that hashtag handy. More details to come later! 👻

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Keyser Police Department is providing the following update regarding an ongoing criminal investigation.

On August 21, 2026, the Keyser Police Department arrested Dennis Michael Hawley on an active arrest warrant. Hawley was charged under West Virginia Code § 61-8C-3(h), involving the distribution or exhibition of sexually explicit material depicting a minor.

Following his arrest, Hawley was transported to the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail, where he remains in custody.

We understand the community’s concerns and desire for answers regarding the videos/photos circulating online.

For clarity, the Police Department is required to follow state law and proper investigative procedures when handling allegations of this nature.

West Virginia Code §61-3C-14b(c) specifically addresses investigations involving minors and states:
“For purposes of this section, ‘minor’ means a person younger than 18 years of age, or a person representing himself or herself to be a minor. Any prosecution, pursuant to this article, relating to a person representing himself or herself to be a minor shall be limited to investigations being conducted or overseen by law enforcement officers.”

This matter is actively being investigated. Evidence has been seized, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The absence of an arrest at this time does not mean the matter has been ignored or that no action has been taken. Investigators must follow the law and proper procedures to ensure that evidence is properly obtained, preserved, and evaluated so the case can be handled appropriately.

The safety of our community, especially our children, remains extremely important to us. This matter is being taken seriously, and the investigation will continue until all available facts and evidence have been properly evaluated.
