The Kilgore Police Department was established in 1931 along with the City of Kilgore shortly after the Famous East Texas Oil Boom. During the boom Kilgore became the geographic center of the oil field and an acre of downtown Kilgore was given the title of “World’s Richest Acre.” Kilgore continues to have a major role in the oil industry. The Kilgore Police Department now serves a population of 13,000 with 36 sworn police officers and a total of 56 employees. The Kilgore Police Department is one of the most progressive and effective departments in East Texas maintaining a dual philosophy of balancing a hard-hitting approach against crime while maintaining strong community policing values. We hold our motto “Serving our Community” as more than just words on paper but something we put into action every day and all members subscribe to the Department’s core values of Service, Respect, Integrity, Professionalism, Accountability and Compassion. We are genuinely concerned with the well being of all of our Citizens and visitors to our city. This concern is captured in our vision statement:

The Kilgore Police Department will set the standard for a safe and crime free community through service, professionalism and excellence in policing. This high standard will result in our citizens having a premier quality of life with a strong sense of security, free from crime and fear anywhere within the City of Kilgore. The Kilgore Police Department is committed to maintaining quality service for the Kilgore community with highly trained, professional and dedicated employees. High standards, quality training and a rigorous selection process ensure only the best police officers are selected for Kilgore and we continually strive to give our officers and employees quality equipment along with the latest technology available. The Kilgore Police Department is a full service department open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days of the year with access to administrative staff and the records department during normal business hours. On February 15, 2013, the Kilgore Police Department received the award of “Recognized Law Enforcement Agency” from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Recognition Program. Begun in 2006, the Recognition Program evaluates a Police Department’s compliance with over 165 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service and the protection of individual’s rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations. 🚨 SCAM ALERT: Y’ALL, WE NEED TO TALK. 🚨

If a Nigerian prince emails you offering $4.2 million, congratulations! 👑

You’re not rich. You’re being scammed.

If a beautiful woman you’ve never met messages you saying she’s in love with you but needs $500 for a plane ticket… ✈️❤️

Sir, that’s probably a man named Gary sitting in his underwear somewhere.

If the IRS calls and demands payment in Apple gift cards… 🍎

We promise you, Uncle Sam is not standing in the Walmart checkout line waiting on those numbers.

And if someone calls demanding payment in Bitcoin to keep you out of jail... ₿🚔

Relax. The Kilgore Police Department does not accept Bitcoin, gift cards, or cryptocurrency as payment to avoid arrest. We barely trust the vending machine to give us our change.

😂 ALL JOKES ASIDE…

Scammers are getting smarter, and they’re targeting people in our community every day.

🛑 Don’t give out personal information.

🛑 Don’t send money or gift cards to strangers.

🛑 Don’t click suspicious links.

🛑 Don’t trust caller ID. Numbers can be spoofed.

🛑 If something feels suspicious, hang up and verify it yourself.

🛑 Don't trust bitcoin or cryptocurrency as payment methods.

Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And if your online girlfriend has needed gas money for six months, we REALLY need to talk. 😂

This morning, Kilgore Police Department responded to a traffic hazard on Highway 135 near Gladewater St following an oil spill on the roadway.

TXDOT and Kilgore Fire Department worked to clear the spill and ensure the roadway was safe for motorists.

This is a good reminder to always secure your load before hitting the road. Unsecured cargo can create dangerous conditions for other drivers, cause traffic delays, and lead to preventable accidents.

Take a few extra minutes to make sure everything is properly secured before you leave. A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping our roads safe.T

UPDATE: As of now, the bridge is back open. The streets department told us that this was a temporary fix to reduce the hump in the road. Later down the line, it will be shut down for an extended period of time. Once they tell us, we will make sure to post it.

Don't forget, Higginbotham bridge between Houston St and Ridgecrest is closed today and tomorrow for repairs.
