Please note that traffic on 𝗨𝗦 𝟭𝟱𝟴 (𝗡. 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝘄𝘆) 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝘃𝗲. will be stopped briefly tomorrow morning around 𝟲:𝟰𝟱 𝗮.𝗺. and again between 𝟳:𝟮𝟬–𝟳:𝟯𝟬 𝗮.𝗺. to allow the 350 𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 (𝗠𝟮𝗠) riders to safely cross the highway.

The riders will begin their approximately 350-mile journey from the Wright Brothers National Memorial to the Air Force Memorial in Washington, D.C. They will proceed to NC 12 (N. Virginia Dare Trl.) and continue northbound on their journey.

Officer Coleman was officially sworn in on Friday, August 28, 2026, with his family proudly by his side after completing Basic Law Enforcement Training at the College of The Albemarle earlier this summer.

During the ceremony, his mother-in-law, Sonya, held the Bible while his wife, Breanna, and daughter, Kendall, stood alongside him in support.

Before beginning his law enforcement career, Officer Coleman served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he worked with Black Hawk helicopters. Following his military service, he earned his EMT-B certification and served the local community with Currituck Fire-EMS.

Originally from Graham, North Carolina, Officer Coleman is also continuing his education and working toward a degree in Criminal Justice at the College of The Albemarle.

We are proud to welcome Officer Coleman and his family to the KDHPD family and look forward to his service to the Kill Devil Hills community! 👏🚔

Today, on National Police K9 Day, we recognize the incredible police K9s who serve alongside their handlers and honor their rigorous training, unwavering loyalty, and dedication to keeping our communities safe. We also pause to remember the K9 officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. 💙🐕‍🦺

As a result of a fiber line being cut, a widespread internet and telephone outage is affecting Northeastern NC, including our area.

Telephone and internet services at the Town of Kill Devil Hills Municipal Offices are currently non-operational. This includes the administrative offices of the Kill Devil Hills Fire and Police Departments.

If you experience an emergency, please call 911 immediately. For non-emergency but immediate issues, please contact Dare Central Dispatch at 252-473-3444.

Staff email services are highly limited during the outage.

An update will be provided once services have been restored.

***UPDATE*** 8/24/2026 4:15am: Subject was safely located and the Silver Alert has been cancelled. Thank you to all who shared.

***UPDATE*** 8/24/2026 2:15am: Depow's vehicle was last known to be in Westmoreland County, VA on Sunday evening, 8/23/2026. The Silver Alert has been extended to VA and law enforcement in that area has been advised.

The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has issued a Silver Alert for 85-year-old Robert Edward Depow of Kill Devil Hills. Robert was last seen traveling northbound on NC 168 in Moyock at approximately 10:20 a.m. on August 23.

Robert is driving a silver 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee with NC license plate 0BX1558F.

Anyone who sees Robert or his vehicle, or has information regarding his whereabouts, is asked to call 911. They may also contact the Kill Devil Hills Police Department at 252-449-5337, or Dare Central Communications at 252-473-3444.
