🚍 Behind every safe ride is a great driver!

This School Bus Safety Week, we’re celebrating the people who show up early, look out for our students, and help our Red Devils get where they need to go safely every day. Drop some ❤️ in the comments for our LCPS bus drivers! They deserve ALL the appreciation.

Our Lancaster Elementary School, VA students are growing more than lettuce! 🥬 STEAM classes recently harvested their first crop from our new Fork Farms Hydroponic Gardening System, gaining hands-on experience with gardening, nutrition, and where our food comes from.

From planting and tending to monitoring and harvesting, students are learning what it takes to grow fresh, healthy food. With hydroponic systems at both LES and LHS, we’re planting the seeds for a better understanding of sustainable growing!

Rumor has it that collard greens will be here in time for Thanksgiving!

Pizza Friday hits different! 🍕 For National School Lunch Week, we’re celebrating a classic favorite that brings back memories for so many of us. Today, all of our buildings enjoyed pizza day, and our LHS students took advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy lunch outside. Some traditions never get old!

So far this school year, our food services team has served 48,236 meals to our students! Thank you for your hard work to keep our students nourished!

On October 7, 2026 Lancaster High School seniors who expressed an interest in the transportation field had the opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

A special thank-you to Mr. Chris Armitage and Mr. Mike Bryant for visiting LHS and sharing information about VDOT’s S.T.A.R.T. program and the opportunities it provides for students interested in beginning a career with VDOT.

Students learned that there are many different pathways with VDOT that ranged from hands-on field and technical careers to office and professional opportunities. They also learned about entry-level positions available right after high school, showing students that a successful career does not always require a traditional four-year college route.

VDOT has opportunities across Virginia, but we were especially excited for our students to learn about career opportunities close to home to build and strengthen the Lancaster County workforce.

Thank you to VDOT for helping our LHS Seniors to be Future Ready!

Lancaster High School finally has the designation that accurately reflects the capabilities and performance of our students—and the tremendous work of our staff. This achievement truly comes from every corner of our schools. It starts with families making attendance a priority and includes the people who safely transport our students, provide healthy meals, deliver quality instruction, create opportunities for postsecondary success, and support our students in countless ways every day.

This designation belongs to all of us—our students, staff, families, and community. We could not be more proud of our students and staff in Lancaster County. We now have the title that reflects the work they have been doing all along.

We are also very proud of the progress at Lancaster Elementary School. LES earned the points required to meet the “Meets Expectations” benchmark; however, under the School Performance and Support Framework, a federal identification for a subgroup automatically lowers the school’s overall designation by one category. Because LES received a federal identification for students with disabilities, its final designation is “Approaching Expectations.”

While we recognize that there is still work to do, growth is always our focus at LCPS, and there is much to celebrate. Our students with disabilities demonstrated significant progress, including a 30 percentage-point increase in Reading Growth and a 3 percentage-point increase in Math Growth sections of the framework. Our chronic absenteeism among these students improved by more than 10%. Those numbers represent real students making real progress, and we are incredibly proud of them and the staff who support them every day. LES reached the point benchmark for “Meets Expectations,” and we will continue building on that progress.

If you see an LCPS student or staff member, take a moment to tell them, “Good job. We’re proud of you and the work you do.” They have earned it.
