🚒 Department Updates 🚒

The Kimball Volunteer Fire Department held its biennial elections Tuesday night, 10/20/26, at its monthly meeting.

There were no new nominations for Fire Chief. Larry Stenroos remains Chief of the department.

John Smith, who was serving as Assistant Chief, graciously stepped down from his position with the department. The department and all its members would like to thank John for all he has done during his terms as not only Assistant Chief but also as former Chief. Smith has always shown great leadership and has consistently gone above and beyond to assist in all aspects of department operations. We thank John for his service and hope he remains on as a firefighter, as he is a great asset to the department. John is also a former Navy serviceman, and we thank him for his service to our country!

John's departure from the position opened the floor to nominations for Assistant Chief. A motion was made by Firefighter C**t Tijan to nominate current Engine Captain John Kallas. Several members supported the nomination. Captain Kallas graciously declined, citing that he did not feel he had the extra time in his current schedule to provide the assistance to Chief Stenroos that the position requires. In turn, Kallas nominated current Tanker Captain and former Assistant Chief Bill Sivula. Sivula accepted the nomination, and the members in attendance unanimously elected him as the new Assistant Chief. We thank Bill for stepping up and taking on this role.

There were no new nominations for Treasurer of the department. Firefighter Greg Huber will remain as treasurer for KVFD.

There were also no new nominations for Secretary of the department. Firefighter Tom Salzmann will remain in that position.

Cara Wagner remains the department's Public Relations Officer. Cara has been a great addition to the department and does amazing work managing the department's page. She also brings great ideas to the table to help with the department's growth.

With Sivula accepting the position of Assistant Chief, a vacancy was created for Tanker Captain. Chief Stenroos will review his roster and make an informed decision regarding who will fill the vacant position. Firefighter C**t Tijan is currently the Lieutenant of the tanker crew.
