Happy Halloween, King City! Below are a few reminders of some important safety tips for you and your children so that we can all have a safe and spooky Halloween:

For Kids:

1. Stay With Your Group: Never go trick-or-treating alone. Stay with friends or a trusted adult.
2. Choose Safe Costumes: Make sure costumes fit well and don’t block your vision or movement.
3. Bring a Light: Carry a flashlight or use reflective details to stay visible after dark.
4. Watch the Road: Use sidewalks, cross at crossings, and look both ways before crossing.
5. Check Your Treats: Wait for an adult to check your candy before eating it.
6. Visit Safe Places: Only visit homes with lights on and avoid unfamiliar or unsafe areas.
7. Stay Connected: Keep a phone handy and know how to contact your trusted adult.

For Adults:

1. Watch for Pedestrians: Drive slowly and watch for children crossing streets unpredictably in dark costumes during peak trick-or-treating hours (5:30 PM - 9:30 PM).
2. Have a Safe Ride Home: If you’re going out, book a rideshare, pick a designated driver, or plan public transit before you start drinking.
3. Secure Your Pets: If you’re handing out candy, keep pets inside and secure to prevent any accidental scares or escapes.
4. Clear a Path: Sweep your walkways, stairs, and yard of extension cords, tools, or trip hazards.
5. Host Responsibly: Serve food and non-alcoholic drink options, and take car keys from impaired guests.
6. Ditch the Flames: Use battery-operated LED lights or glow sticks inside jack-o'-lanterns instead of real candles.
7. Check the Candy: Inspect all candy under bright light before eating, and throw away anything with torn, open, or altered wrappers.

Have a safe Halloween, King City! We will be out doing patrols all night to help keep citizens safe during the spookiest holiday of the year. 🎃

Yesterday, our partners at Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to a small fire at the corner of SW 116th Avenue and Royalty Parkway.

Thankfully, the fire was small and put out quickly.

We urge everyone to stay aware of fire hazards. Despite the cooling weather, many areas remain very dry and prone to fires from discarded ci******es and other hazards.

Thank you to our partners at TVF&R and KCPD Officer Kazmierski for their quick assistance! Our Public Works team will continue to monitor the area for any additional recurring fires.

Since 1985, October has been recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Each year, more than 380,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Throughout October, the King City Police Department will wear special pink patches to support all those affected by breast cancer. We stand in solidarity with individuals fighting this disease, recognize the strength of survivors, and honor the memory of those lost.

Early detection is critical. Regular screenings and mammograms remain essential tools in the fight against breast cancer. This month, we encourage you to prioritize your health, remind loved ones to schedule routine screenings, and join us in raising awareness.
