Illegal dumpers are learning that Mohave County ERACE doesn’t ignore evidence and we don’t stop at the trash pile.
ERACE detectives followed the evidence, identified those responsible, and citations (x2) were issued for their careless and selfish dumping activities. These people treated our desert, roadsides, and communities like their personal landfill — and now they’re being held accountable.
We will continue investigating illegal dumping complaints, tracking suspects, and pursuing enforcement action whenever evidence leads us there. Dumping your trash in the desert is not “free,” and it is not victimless. It damages our communities, costs taxpayers money, and shows complete disrespect for the people who live here.

Another productive day for ERACE in Fort Mohave. Illegal dumping and litter continue to impact our desert communities, but every cleanup makes a difference. 1,860 lbs of trash was removed, evidence collected, and investigations are moving forward where leads were found.

Q: Can you explain to me the function and enforcement role of ERACE? And what information is needed to catch and prosecute illegal dumping?

ERACE focuses on three key areas: litter investigation, litter remediation, and litter education.
While our detectives will continue pursuing and prosecuting littering cases, you’ll also see us taking a more active role in cleanup efforts and community education—areas that haven’t always been the primary focus in recent years.
It’s important to understand how investigations work.
When ERACE receives video evidence that clearly identifies a suspect, it can directly support prosecution.
However, items like mail, pill bottles, or other personal information found in a dumpsite typically identify the "generator" of the trash—not necessarily the person who illegally dumped it. This type of evidence can help build a case, but it doesn’t always point to the actual offender.
We’re committed to doing this the right way—through thorough investigations, hands-on cleanup, and educating our community to prevent future dumping.

Detectives spent the day sorting through and cleaning up multiple illegal dump sites across the county. Evidence was recovered, and we are actively following up on all names and addresses found.
A total of 2,620 lbs of trash has now been removed and properly disposed of—right where it belongs!
Illegal dumping is not a victimless crime. We will continue to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.

The last weekend of March 2026 marked another Golden Shores victory in the battle against dumping garbage, when Mohave County ERACE combined forces with the Golden Shores Offroaders, plus other community organizations, to offer trash removal opportunities in both Golden Shores and the surrounding desert. March 27th (Friday) had entailed a cleanup of the desert landscapes along the Route 66 Historic Back Country Byway north of Golden Shores. There were 25+ volunteers and over 1.5 tons of trash removed from surrounding public lands.

March 28th (Saturday) was the main Golden Shores community event, which allowed locals to dispose of an array of waste items (appliances, tires, batteries, household trash, etc.) in Mohave County ERACE arranged roll-off dumpsters. Mohave County ERACE officers and volunteers managed the scene to ensure people had assistance and that the operation went smoothly.
When it comes to folks who care about the cleanliness of their community and environment, Mohave County remains Golden!

When hiring someone to clean out your garage, yard, or property, please use a reputable company that provides proper disposal documentation (such as dump receipts).

In a recent case, a resident hired a cheap, unreliable service and paid cash. Instead of properly disposing of the trash, the individuals illegally dumped it in the desert. Investigators later located the debris and were able to identify the original owner—who is still legally responsible for the waste.

Unfortunately, hiring the wrong provider can end up costing far more in the long run.

Protect yourself:
• Use reputable companies
• Always get a receipt for disposal
• Avoid cash-only transactions
• Verify where your waste is being taken
