💙📚💛 Throwbook Thursday Reveal!

It's time to reveal this week's mystery year!

The answer is... 1961-1962!

Today's photos came from the 1962 Kingsfordian, taking us back more than 60 years in Kingsford High School history!

These pages capture student life during a different era of KHS, before the current high school building opened in 1965.

From classrooms filled with students and the excitement of Flivver Basketball to the majorettes and familiar faculty members, these photos offer a glimpse into what it was like to be a Flivver in the early 1960s.

And here's a little piece of Kingsford history: among the faculty pictured is Mr. Alvin Cummings, who taught mathematics at KHS and was recently honored as a 2026 BTS Achievement Hall of Fame inductee!

It's amazing to think about how much has changed in more than six decades, while the traditions and pride of being a Flivver continue.

Were you part of the Class of 1962? Do you recognize a parent, grandparent, former teacher, or family member in these photos? We'd love to hear your memories in the comments!

Thanks for joining us for another Throwbook Thursday. We'll head back into the Kingsfordian archives again next week!

A welcoming space can make a difference in a student’s day. School Social Worker Jessica Clarke shares how the Sinking Fund helped create Woodland Elementary’s Student Services Center:

“As the school social worker, I see firsthand the importance of providing students with a safe, supportive environment where they feel heard, valued, and understood. Thanks to the Breitung Township Schools sinking fund, Woodland Elementary has been able to create the Woodland Student Services Center, a welcoming space where students can reset, take a break, express their feelings, and develop the emotional skills they need to thrive.”

💙📚💛 Throwbook Thursday!

It's Thursday, which means we're heading back into the Kingsfordian archives for another round of Guess the Year!

This week's photos take us back several decades, offering a glimpse into student life at Kingsford High School.

From busy classrooms and crowded hallways to Flivver Basketball and the majorettes, there are plenty of clues hiding in these pages!

Take a close look at the hairstyles, fashions, uniforms, and even the classrooms themselves.

Can you guess the school year?

Do you recognize a parent, grandparent, former teacher, family member, or another familiar Flivver face?

Drop your best guess in the comments, and we'll reveal the answer, and the yearbook cover, later this evening!

The Sinking Fund has supported improvements to building security at Woodland Elementary. Assistant Principal Bryan Johnson explains the impact of the school’s renovated main office:

“The relocation and renovation of Woodland’s main office has established a single point of entry that requires visitors to pass through an additional checkpoint before entering the facility. This enhanced entryway improves building security while giving administration and office staff visibility over everyone entering the school. The relocation has also boosted efficiency, allowing us to establish a standalone Student Services Center focused entirely on student care and guidance.”

Students in Mrs. Rankin’s Spanish classes are getting ready for Día de los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, by making pan de mu**to, a traditional bread associated with the holiday. It’s a hands-on way to connect their classroom learning with cultural traditions!

Connecting classroom learning with real-world science! Heather LaVarnway, KMS eighth-grade science teacher, shares how technology funded through the Sinking Fund supports her students:

“The most recent sinking fund put a Newline Interactive Board into my classroom to use with my eighth grade science students. This instructional technology allows us to do things like explore current weather satellite data or observe NASA telescope imagery together. Students have been able to analyze real time data so they can connect what we do in the classroom to what scientists are doing in the field of space and Earth Science.”

Local history meets creative storytelling in Business Technology & Brand Management! 💙🎙️💛

For their Cities Across the Upper Peninsula project, KHS students began by learning research skills and finding historical facts about ten locations across the U.P. They then explored voiceover careers and put their learning into practice by recording narration for their videos.

Then came the twist: their videos would use either a Strawberry Shortcake or Transformers themed template! Students had to think about how their voices could bring local history to life while fitting the theme.

These photos capture students taking their recording sessions outdoors, using nature to create their own “sound booths.” A creative way to connect research, career exploration, and video production!
