The department has been out and about this week in addition to inviting children into the fire house to learn about fire prevention and fire safety. In addition they get to talk with firefighters and ask questions (and some really good ones too). FF/PM Caden Schiel and Tim Saltz has been working with Chief Young to learn the ins and outs of delivering this valuable education to children this year. Several of our volunteer members and career staff have been assisting this week. Additionally the Swoyersville Fire Department has joined us both here at GSA and at Fire Headquarters.

The arrangements for our Brother Joseph “Skip” Kozich have been published. Please follow the link below to read his obituary and learn more about the impact he had on his family, our community, and our department.

Skip was a one-of-a-kind firefighter whose love for the job was rivaled only by his love for his family, his friends, and, of course, the Penguins.

For decades, Skip was an integral part of the Forty Fort Fire Company and Kingston Forty Fort Fire Department. His presence, friendship, dedication, and commitment to serving others left an impression on generations of firefighters and on the community he called home.

Skip leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond the firehouse, and one that will not soon be forgotten.

Our thoughts remain with the entire Kozich family during this difficult time.

View Joseph George "Skip" Kozich's obituary, send flowers and sign the guestbook.

🚨CODE PURPLE AIR QUALITY WARNING🚨

Due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires, our area is currently under a Code Purple Air Quality Alert.

A Code Purple is issued when the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaches 201–300, which is considered Very Unhealthy. At these levels, everyone may experience health effects, while children, older adults, and individuals with heart or lung conditions are at an even greater risk.

Please do your best to limit your exposure outside, reduce any and all strenuous activity, and check on those most vulnerable to respiratory illness.

Reminder- while the air quality will continue to drop throughout the day, it will only be “improving” to an unhealthy level. Precautions may still be necessary for sensitive groups.

🚨 AIR QUALITY ALERT 🚨

Due to smoke drifting into our region from ongoing Canadian wildfires, air quality has deteriorated across portions of northeastern Pennsylvania. Hazy skies and the smell of smoke may be noticeable throughout the Kingston and Forty Fort area. Recent smoke plumes from Canada are affecting parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

To help protect your health:

• Limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, especially if you have asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

• Children, older adults, and other sensitive individuals should consider staying indoors as much as possible.

• Keep windows and doors closed and run air conditioning on recirculate if available.

• If you must be outdoors for an extended period and smoke is heavy, consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask.

The Kingston Forty Fort Fire Department encourages everyone to monitor local air quality conditions and take the necessary precautions to stay safe until conditions improve.
