The allegations surrounding the βCornell 7β have brought national attention to sexual violence on college campuses and to the systems, cultures, and people responsible for preventing it.
For us, the message is bigger than one university or one case.
Sexual violence is never something we should normalize, excuse, minimize, or ignore.
Consent must be freely and voluntarily given. Someone who is incapacitated cannot meaningfully consent. And when something does not look right, bystanders have a role to play. Check in. Interrupt the situation. Get help. Speak up.
For survivors, there is no βrightβ way to respond after sexual violence. You may report immediately, report later, or choose not to report. You may remember pieces of an experience differently over time. You may know exactly what you want to do next, or have no idea.
Support should not depend on any of those things.
SAPA provides confidential support and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones throughout Orange County. Our advocates can help you understand your options while respecting your right to decide what comes next.
SAPA advocates are available 24/7.
