Morning,
Here is a list of private roads in Kingston that do not meet the minimum criteria for winter maintenance.
In 2024 the town adopted a private road snow removal and maintenance policy. Every September my Foreman and I inspect all private roads and report back to the town administrator roads that do not meet the policy. We mail out letters to all residents that live along these roads to inform them what needs to be completed before they can be added back to the plowing list. Some roads that do not meet the minimum requirements are removed from the plowing list. The residents along these roads are given to November 1st to repair potholes, trim trees, and remove items that may be within the 2ft shoulder. After our inspection November 1st, if everything is completed to our standards they are added back, if they are not completed we go before the selectmen and ask them to remove the road for the upcoming season. This policy was put into place to protect town and contractor vehicles from damage and also protect the residents properties along the private ways. The full policy can be found on the town website by searching snow removal policy.
We would also like to take this time to remind residents whether you live along a private or public roadway, the town and or contractors are not responsible for damaged mailboxes, fences, vehicles, stonewalls, irrigation, or anything else that is in the town's right of way or shoulder of the road during snow removal and plowing operations.
Thank you for your understanding. If your street is private and found to be on this list please call the Highway Department @ 781-585-0513 and ask for Adam or Shawn and we will gladly work with you to get these issues addressed.
