Ticket required for entry. Tickets will be handed out for FREE at the desk upstairs starting today, October 13th. Limit: One ticket per person.

There will be three sessions of the exact same presentation:
Session One: 2:00-2:45pm
Session Two: 3:00-3:45pm
Session Three: 4:00-4:45 pm

This class will teach you the basics of Microsoft Excel 2019 as well as some of the tips and tricks that are needed to create and navigate your spreadsheets. Basic computer skills are required.

All classes start within five minutes of the announced time; classes are cancelled if no registered attendees arrive within fifteen minutes of announced time.

Join us for our Tween Book Club! We will discuss the book of the month, have snacks, and enjoy book-related activities. This month we will be reading "Don't Turn Out the Lights" by Jonathan Maberry.

On Friday, October 9th, we will discuss pages 1-191.
On Friday, October 23rd, we will discuss the rest of the book.
This book club is intended for children ages 8-12. Online registration is required; space is limited.

Once you've received your confirmation email, please pick up a copy of the book at the children's reference desk.

Bring in your gently used puzzles and exchange them for new-to-you puzzles!

*New: Registration required* *Registration will open Saturday, October 31st at 10am.*

Please limit puzzles to 15 per person and no puzzles with missing pieces. Anyone that brings in a 500+ piece puzzle can participate in the swap. You will receive 1 ticket for each puzzle that you bring to trade for a new(ish) puzzle.

The downstairs Meeting room will open at 3PM...the first few minutes will be the puzzle browse.

Any leftover puzzles will be donated to the Friends of the Library-Kingwood.

This year’s Banned Books Week coincides with ALA’s official 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion, ALA has released a list of the 150 most challenged books documented from 1990, when ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom began tracking book challenges, through 2025.

The full list of the 150 most challenged books - those that have been targeted for restriction or removal in libraries and schools - spans contemporary titles such as "Gender Q***r: A Memoir" by Maia Kobabe and literary classics such as "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee and "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck.

“Every book on this list is a reminder that readers have the right to explore ideas and decide for themselves what to read,” said ALA President Maria McCauley. “For 150 years, ALA has worked alongside library workers to keep that choice open to everyone. We ask for support for our libraries so the next generation has that same freedom.”

In 2025, the American Library Association documented the second highest level of book censorship attempts ever and the continuation of an organized effort to systematically suppress voices and idea that began in 2021. Last year, 4,235 unique titles were challenged, only five titles short of the highest number ever documented by ALA and significantly exceeding the annual average of 273 unique titles over the period from 2001-2020.
