A great time was had by all at Marauder Composite Squadron's 2019 Advanced Squadron Leadership School held last weekend in Crosby. There were plenty of great activities for the 20 cadets in attendance including Laser Tag and The Knowledge Bowl. The most common question asked at the end of the ASLS was "When can we do this again?!". Photo credits: SM Cindy Huckabay

Last week, our area was hit with Tropical Storm Imelda. Untold numbers of homes were flooded, and families, some for the second time in just 4 months, lost everything. Squadron members gathered to help in any way we could. Whether it was cutting out wet drywall, removing ruined furniture to a dumpster or sanitizing floors and walls, we were blessed to be able to help our neighbors begin the task of starting over.

If you missed last night's squadron meeting, you missed a rousing and enthusiastic game of Capture The Flag in the gym... both teams were in it to win it!

This past weekend, Marauder's Color Guard was honored to be asked to present the colors at the opening of the StrikeOut Violence fundraiser in Houston. This event was hosted by dozens of baseball leagues from all over Houston and other parts of Texas. Money was raised for a baseball family who's father/husband/coach was shot and killed in the El Paso shooting. Our Color Guard was joined by their fellow cadets and senior members for this important event. Outstanding job, cadets, you made your squadron proud!

Marauder cadets and senior members had a great time talking about Civil Air Patrol at the Home Education and Responsible Teaching (HEART) expo earlier this month. The event was held at the Kingwood Community Center. It was well attended by home school families and, hopefully, some future Marauder cadets! Photo credits: SM Cindy Huckabay

Preparation for Marauder's 10th annual October Skies has begun! Thank you to Mr. Ryan Wehr for his expertise and skillful assistance in building our rockets. Our cadets are having fun working on building their rockets, while learning all about how their rockets will respond to the external forces of weight, thrust and aerodynamics during their flights next month.

As dawn broke on June 6, 1944, German soldiers defending the French coast at Normandy looked out upon an awe-inspiring sight — the largest amphibious invasion force in history, amassed in front of them, in the waters of the English Channel. The invasion force consisted mainly of Americans, Britons, and Canadians, but the French and many other nations also participated.
Over 150,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen, many just teenagers, bravely charged the German guns on the beaches of Normandy that day. Because of bad weather, the D-Day beach landings were chaotic and bloody, with the first waves of landing forces suffering terrible losses. But thanks to raw perseverance and grit, the Allies overcame those grave initial situations and took all five Normandy beaches by nightfall on June 6th. The D-Day battles became a turning point in WWII as they opened up the long-awaited Second Front against Hi**er. The campaign would end with the unconditional surrender of Germany less than a year later in May of 1945.
Seventy-five years ago today, 4,414 Allied soldiers, sailors, and airmen made the ultimate sacrifice for the free world. We remember all of them, today and always.

America's Civil Air Patrol handles 90 percent of inland search and rescue missions, with approximately 75 lives saved each year. Our members are generally the first on the scene transmitting satellite digital images of the damage within seconds around the world and providing disaster relief and emergency services following natural and manmade disasters. We were on the scene after 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, Texas and Oklahoma wildfires, tornadoes in the south and central U.S., North Dakota flash flooding and the October 2006 earthquake in Hawaii, as well as humanitarian missions along the U.S. and Mexican border.
In addition, CAP members are dedicated to counterdrug reconnaissance and to teaching a new generation about aerospace and its impact on our future. Our cadet programs ensure our youth receive some of the finest leadership training the nation has to offer.
Our more than 60,000 members are provided with top-notch, year-round professional development training opportunities and with aircraft equipped with the most advanced technologies available for search and rescue.
Civil Air Patrol makes a huge impact each and every day, going above and beyond to make a profound difference in America's communities.
