🚨🔥 TC TUESDAY: EPISODE 118

FIRE PREVENTION STARTS BEFORE THE FIRE 🔥🚒

Fire Prevention Week is almost here! 🚒

But here’s the thing about fire prevention…

It shouldn’t start when you smell smoke.

It starts before there’s ever a fire.

So for this week’s TC Tuesday, we’re giving you a challenge:

🏠🔥 TAKE 10 MINUTES AND DO A FIRE-SAFETY WALK THROUGH YOUR HOME.

Seriously. Ten minutes.

Let’s go. 👇

🚨 CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS

Press that test button!

Make sure you have working smoke alarms where they’re needed, and don’t ignore the mysterious CHIRP… CHIRP… CHIRP that’s been driving everyone crazy for three weeks. 😑😂

That chirp is trying to tell you something.

🚪 KNOW TWO WAYS OUT

If your normal exit is blocked by smoke or fire, what’s Plan B?

Walk through your home and make sure everyone knows another way out when possible.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 PICK A MEETING PLACE

Mailbox. Tree. Neighbor’s driveway.

Pick somewhere safely away from the house where EVERYONE meets after getting out.

Why?

Because firefighters don’t need to risk their lives searching a burning home for someone who’s actually standing safely three houses down.

🚪 KEEP YOUR EXITS CLEAR

That box you’ve been meaning to move?

The pile sitting by the back door?

The furniture blocking the window?

🔥 During a fire, darkness and smoke can make a familiar house completely different.

Your escape routes need to be usable NOW, not after you reorganize them during an emergency.

👧 MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS KNOW THE PLAN

Do they know what the smoke alarm sounds like?

Do they know where to go?

Do they know NOT to hide from firefighters?

And do they understand:

🔥 GET OUT. STAY OUT.

No toys.

No electronics.

No favorite blanket.

And no running back inside because you forgot something.

🐶 YES, THIS INCLUDES PETS.

We know. ❤️

Tell the 911 telecommunicator and arriving firefighters that a pet may still be inside.

Do not go back into a burning home yourself.

📱 KNOW YOUR ADDRESS

Make sure everyone in the household especially children know the address of the home.

And make sure your house numbers are clearly visible from the roadway, day AND night.

🔥 AND FINALLY…PRACTICE IT.

Don’t just say:

“We’d know what to do.”

Actually do it.

Set off the smoke alarm.

Practice getting out.

Meet at your designated spot.

See how long it takes.

Because 2:00 AM, in the dark, with alarms sounding and smoke filling your home is not the time to figure out the family plan.

🚒❤️ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK BEGINS OCTOBER 4.

So consider this your homework before it starts:

✅ Test the alarms
✅ Check your exits
✅ Make an escape plan
✅ Choose your meeting place
✅ Practice with your family

Ten minutes tonight could make a tremendous difference during the worst ten minutes of your life.

🔥 Fire prevention doesn’t start when you smell smoke.

It starts before there’s ever a fire. 🚒❤️

If there’s a will there is a way. With the help of a couple of our members and some that weren’t members but were willing to help we have built a jet siphon. With this we have calculated that we can move right around 2,000 gpm with a line from a truck feeding 100psi from a 3” line necked down to 1 3/4”. This is major when multiple portable water tanks are used at once. This will be a huge help for us as water supply can be a big issue for us when we are in rural areas. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

During National EMS Week, the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Protection District would like to recognize the EMS providers who have volunteered with our area ambulance service.

For many years, as with many small communities, the local ambulance service was operated out of the funeral home, utilizing the hearse as a dual-purpose ambulance. Beryl “Dutch” Linton and Linton Funeral Home provided the first ambulance service for Kinmundy for many years with the help of volunteers. Ever since, our local ambulance service has relied on dedicated community members who volunteer their time when possible to respond to those in need.

After Linton Funeral Home ceased ambulance operations in the early 1980s, it fell to the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Department to ensure that emergency medical services would continue for the Kinmundy area. Wilson-Roddy Ambulance Service loaned an ambulance until one could be procured by the fire department in June 1982.
For the past 44 years, the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Protection District has provided emergency medical care for the people of Kinmundy and the surrounding 138 square miles. Listed here are over 130 confirmed members of the Kinmundy-Alma community who have answered the call as licensed EMS providers.

(The names shown were obtained through various sources, and many records have been lost. If there are any former KA EMTs or EMS providers missing from the list, please share their names with us. We wish to recognize all members, past and present. An asterisk denotes your current ambulance service members)

The KAFPD Ambulance Service is always accepting applications from those who wish to give back to their community. EMT and EMR classes are held throughout the area, and we can help you get trained and licensed.

For generations, members of this community have answered calls at all hours, cared for neighbors in their worst moments, and helped ensure emergency medical care remained available in our area. We thank every past and present EMS provider who has served the Kinmundy-Alma community.
