We understand that many residents are disappointed by the current fire restrictions, especially during our nation's 250th Independence Day celebration. For many families, celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks has long been a cherished tradition, and it's understandable that some may feel they should be able to continue that tradition this year.
Unfortunately, the current wildfire risk leaves little room for exceptions. The combination of prolonged hot, dry weather and elevated fire danger has prompted officials to implement Stage II burn restrictions to protect lives, property, and our community's natural resources. While the restrictions may be frustrating, they are intended to prevent a single spark from causing a devastating wildfire.
**All fireworks are strictly prohibited in unincorporated Elbert County under current Stage II burn restrictions.** This ban is absolute and applies to all types of fireworks, including sparklers, novelty items, and fireworks that would otherwise be legal under normal circumstances.
The restrictions are in place due to extreme fire danger and dry conditions. Residents are encouraged to celebrate safely by attending professional fireworks displays or other community events where permitted.
For the latest official information, consult Elbert County's burn restriction updates. If you observe the illegal use of fireworks call the Fireworks Hotline at 303-814-7118 (staffed from 6 p.m. to midnight) or contact the Douglas Regional 9-1-1 non-emergency line at 303-660-7500.
