Demolition is coming to O.O. Denny Park Bridge this Friday.

O.O. Denny Park Bridge is falling down — or, rather, it’s being demolished. After a fallen tree damaged the pedestrian bridge last fall, the City has been working on plans to replace it. The demolition has been scheduled for Friday, October 16.

Portions of the south parking lot will be closed during the demolition. A replacement bridge is expected to be installed in early 2027 based on current shipping estimates. The new bridge is currently being designed and fabricated, and its building permit is under review. Please continue to stay out of the closed area while demolition and replacement work is underway. We appreciate your patience as we work to restore this important connection.

Calling all City of Kirkland all stars!

City staff came together for the annual Employee Appreciation Picnic in September. It was a chance to celebrate accomplishments, connect with colleagues, and recognize the work employees do throughout the year. This year’s “All Star” theme invited staff to represent their favorite sports teams while enjoying an afternoon of food, music, and camaraderie at Heritage Hall.

A highlight of the event was the City Manager’s Awards ceremony, where City Manager Kurt Triplett and members of the City’s executive team recognized employees and teams who go above and beyond in their work. Their contributions demonstrate what it means to SERVE our community, create a workplace where we all BELONG, and bring the City’s values to life as we THRIVE together.

Arbor Day again?🌳That's right! Like many communities in Washington, we have our own Arbor Day in October, during our best tree-planting season.

You're invited to celebrate Kirkland’s annual Arbor Day on Thursday, October 15 at 1 PM at Fire Station 21 (9816 Forbes Creek Dr.). Join our tree planting and lend a hand as we spread mulch and install native plants and some landscape trees. RVSP here: https://bit.ly/4ygSvIe.

Right now, adult salmon across our region are swimming back to the streams and rivers where they were born to spawn. Want to witness their incredible journey? Visit King County’s Salmon SEEson page to view a map of salmon viewing sites in our area: http://bit.ly/salmonseeson.

All year round, we can make choices at home that help keep streams healthy for salmon. Here are some tips for being salmon-friendly:
- Choose natural yard care.
- Plant native, pollinator-friendly plants.
- Reduce pesticide use.
- Properly dispose of paint, oil, and other hazardous products.
- Keep chemicals out of storm drains.

Pink patches are returning to the Kirkland Police Department!

For the sixth consecutive year, the KPD is participating in the Pink Patch Project, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and support those impacted by cancer. The Pink Patch Project began with the Seal Beach Police Department in California in 2015 and has since grown to include hundreds of public safety agencies across the country.

Throughout October, participating Kirkland Police and Corrections officers can swap their traditional patches and badges for pink versions while raising funds for Footprints of Fight, a local nonprofit that helps Washington families navigating pediatric cancer treatment. Over the past five years, KPD’s participation in the program has raised $6,155 for the organization.

Interested in supporting the campaign? Purchase commemorative KPD pink patches through the KPD Pink Patch Etsy store. Pink Patch coins and stickers are also available for purchase at the Kirkland Police Department, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. All proceeds from Pink Patch merchandise benefit Footprints of Fight.
