Klamath County Fire District 1 Responds to Structure Fire on Morningside Lane

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — October 18, 2026 — At approximately 3:03 a.m., Klamath County Fire District 1 (KCFD1) was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Morningside Lane.

Fire crews arrived within minutes of dispatch and encountered active fire conditions involving a residence. Initial firefighting operations were hindered by a downed power line near the structure, requiring firefighters to take additional precautions while establishing fire suppression efforts.

Once the scene was stabilized and the electrical hazard addressed, KCFD1 crews coordinated with Kingsley Field firefighters assigned to Engine 3211 to initiate offensive operations. The crew from Engine 3111 conducted an aggressive primary search of the residence while additional firefighters advanced attack lines to suppress the fire.

Through coordinated suppression and search efforts, crews successfully contained the fire and limited further damage to the structure.

No firefighter injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Klamath County Fire District 1 would like to thank Pacific Power for their prompt response in addressing the downed power line, allowing firefighting operations to proceed safely and effectively.

We also extend our appreciation to the Kingsley Field Fire Department for their assistance and continued partnership during this incident.

KCFD1 remains committed to providing the highest level of emergency services to the citizens and communities we proudly serve.

Klamath County Fire District 1 is excited to announce the completion of the Station 1 improvement project, a significant investment in one of the District’s longest-serving facilities.

The approximately $300,000 project included a new exterior façade, increased apparatus bay door openings and new bay doors, a new concrete apparatus apron, and improved drainage. The project replaced original apparatus bay doors dating back to the 1930s and an asphalt apron that had been in service for approximately 40 years. The existing bay openings lacked the height and size necessary to safely accommodate modern fire and EMS apparatus, making the improvements an important operational need for the station.

Station 1 is staffed daily by five personnel and houses a fire engine, ambulance, wildland apparatus, and reserve fire engine. In 2025, Station 1 responded to 2,980 emergency incidents, highlighting the important role the station plays in the District’s emergency response system.

The District planned and saved for the project over multiple fiscal years, allowing these significant improvements to be completed through a deliberate, long-term approach to capital planning.

“This project reflects our commitment to maintaining our facilities while being responsible with the resources entrusted to us by the community,” said Fire Chief Brent Knutson. “We are excited to see the project completed and Station 1 positioned to continue serving our community for many years to come.”

The improvements build upon the remodel and seismic upgrades completed at Station 1 in 2021. At the time of that project, the District did not have sufficient funding to complete the remaining exterior, bay door, apron, and drainage improvements. By setting aside funds over subsequent fiscal years, the District was able to complete these remaining projects and finish the planned improvements to Station 1.

Yesterday, Klamath County Fire District 1 responded to two separate grass fires. Fortunately, both fires were brought under control quickly, but they serve as an important reminder of how easily a small fire can spread under our current dry conditions.

While the temperatures may be starting to cool down, our vegetation remains dry and the risk of fire is still very real.

We want to remind everyone that we are still in fire season, and caution is still needed. Please be careful with anything that could create a spark or start a fire. Even a small ignition can spread quickly through dry grass and vegetation.

🍂🔥 Hello, October! Let’s start the month with fire safety in mind.

As cooler weather arrives, Klamath County Fire District 1 reminds you to take a few simple steps to keep your home and family safe:

✅ Test your smoke alarms and make sure everyone knows what they sound like.
✅ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn, and turn them off when leaving the room or going to bed.
✅ Plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet—never an extension cord or power strip.
✅ Have chimneys and heating equipment inspected before use.
✅ Stay in the kitchen when frying food, and keep towels and other combustible items away from the stovetop.
✅ Plan and practice your home escape routes, including an outdoor meeting place.

🎃 Decorating for fall? Choose battery-operated candles to keep the glow without an open flame!

Make October 1 your reminder to test your alarms and practice your escape plan. A few minutes today can make a lifesaving difference.
