After 18 years at Kingsley Fire, and more than 30 years in the fire service, Firefighter Fred Heavilin has hung up his helmet for the final time. Instead of the traditional retirement axe, Fred requested a custom pocket watch to commemorate his career! Here's to a future of fishing, hunting, and the honey-do list!!! Happy Retirement FredandLisa Heavilin

Kingsley crews had an excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge on a building being demo. Some serious learning on brick walls and multi roof layers. These are all things we have to know to be able to rescue victims, but to ventilate a structure to reduce fire damage and ultimately extinguish a fire! Such a great opportunity!!

RIP Brother, we'll take it from here.

RIP Brother, we'll take it from here.

Tragically, our brother, Captain Michael Anderson, passed away off-duty on September 2nd, 2026. Captain Anderson served the citizens of Marion County Fire District #1 for over 20 years and still had many more ahead of him. He was known on shift as a respected, honorable, and truly enjoyable person to be around. He knew how to make a whole room laugh, with a single look. He offered heartfelt advice to firefighters, new dads, and upcoming captains in training. He leaves behind a beautiful family, his wife and three daughters. Please consider donating to help them during this unimaginable time. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Mike's Local 2557 brothers and sisters would also like to thank the outpouring of support they have received from the first responder community. It is extremely significant in the way the fire service family pulls together in times like this. Stay safe everyone. We love you Mike.

Captain Anderon's funeral service details will be shared at a later time.

Donations: Money orders or checks can also be made out to Jenae Anderson and sent to Marion County Professional Firefighters Local 2557 at PO Box 17132 Salem, OR 97305

One of the cool things of being on the airfield, we get to see some awesome aircraft! Like this, a BO105 helicopter has a distinct sound, we heard it, then saw The Red Bull Stunt BO105. Went and talked with the pilots, lead stunt pilot flying with his son who's learning to be a pilot! And they thought our OshKosh Crash truck was pretty awesome themselves! Pretty cool opportunity!!
