National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is observed every October to recognize the contributions, skills, and talents that people with disabilities bring to the American workforce. The observance began in 1945 as a week recognizing workers with physical disabilities and was expanded by Congress to a month-long observance in 1988; today, NDEAM recognizes workers with all types of disabilities, including nonapparent disabilities.
