Today we honor the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson—a giant whose voice, courage, and conviction reshaped what was possible for generations of us. As I reflect on his passing, I’m reminded that leaders like him cleared the path that allows me to stand where I stand today, sworn in as Chair of the Knox County Democratic Party, the 2024 Democratic Nomiee for State Senate.

Rev. Jackson taught us to believe in our own power, to fight for justice with discipline and love, and to declare without hesitation “I am somebody.”

His work lives on in every community he lifted, every barrier he broke, and every one of us who continues the struggle for dignity, equity, and democracy.

May we honor him not only in memory, but in action.

Rest in power, Rev. Jackson. Your legacy lives in us. Domonica Bryan

I’m Beau Hawk, and I’m running for Knox County Mayor.

Join us at HawkForKnox.com

As President of the local Central Labor Council, I fight every day for the thousands of union workers in Knox County who punch a clock, swipe a badge, or work for tips.

This is a campaign by and for the people of Knox County who know we need new leadership at the top to tackle the challenges ahead of us.

These are no ordinary times. I believe local leaders should be doing everything in their power to champion opportunity and affordability as Knox County grows – but the Republicans who’ve run the county for decades don’t seem to share that sense of duty.

County government is a mess. Something has to give.

That’s why I’m running: Because Knox County doesn’t need another career politician, it needs one of us to step up and change how things work.

Follow along and join us in this fight for a Knox County that works for all of us.

As Chair of the Knox County Democratic Party, I am heartbroken by the passing of Diane Jordan—an extraordinary leader, a trailblazer, and a woman whose courage changed the course of our county’s history.

Diane Jordan was the first Black woman elected as a Knox County Commissioner, but she was so much more than a “first.” She was a truth teller. A fighter. A servant leader who never lost sight of the people she represented, especially those too often ignored or pushed to the margins. She showed up with clarity, conviction, and an unshakable commitment to justice, even when it was uncomfortable or unpopular.

Diane believed that public service meant standing firm, asking hard questions, and refusing to be silent in the face of inequity. She gave us a blueprint one rooted in courage, integrity, and love for community. That blueprint calls on each of us to step forward, to stay engaged, and to continue the work she so faithfully carried.

The best way to honor Diane Jordan is not only to remember her, but to continue the good fight, to get into the kind of good trouble she believed in, and to make room for more voices, more leaders, and more justice in Knox County.

We are better because of her. We are braver because of her. And we carry her legacy forward with gratitude, determination, and resolve.

May her memory be a blessing, and may her work live on through all of us. Domonica Bryan
