Educational Discussions: Week 3.
Check out the think pieces on food deserts. Read this article called The Food Desert Dilemma [https://draxe.com/health/food-desert/] and watch this video called Stranded in a Food Desert [www.cc.com/video-clips/1paso2/the-nightly-show-with-larry-wilmore-stranded-in-a-food-desert].
For discussion: 1. How do food deserts impact the prevalence of chronic disease? 2. How can we support future patients who might live in food deserts?

SOMA acknowledges many health inequities exist among BIPOC communities, and we are committed to providing educational opportunities to reflect on and act in ways to ameliorate the inequities as future physicians. Starting tomorrow, check out our weekly Monday posts, and we’ll share some think pieces and discussion questions from SOMA’s Social Medicine Program. We encourage you to reflect and have these discussions with your friends and family. If you’re interested in having conversations surrounding these [and other!] topics on your campus, the Social Medicine Program curriculum is available to SOMA chapter leadership. Please contact your chapter leaders or SOMA’s National Health Disparities Director at [email protected] for more information.
