It is with heavy hearts that we report a tragic residential fire that occurred last night at 419 W. Broad St.
On May 21, 2026, at 10:50 PM, Clinton E911 dispatch received a report of smoke coming from the residence. The Clinton Fire Department arrived on-scene immediately, made entry into the home, and located a 9-year-old female victim.
Firefighters immediately brought her outside and Clinton Police Officers administered life-saving measures until Anderson County EMS arrived, took over care, and transported her to Methodist Medical Center. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was accidental and originated in the kitchen.

Life Saving Award Presentation!!!
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at approximately 5:10 PM, the Clinton Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the Weigel’s on N. Charles Seivers Blvd. regarding a medical emergency in the women's restroom.
Officer Jessica Daugherty was the first to arrive on the scene, but the lifesaving process was already well underway. She found Weigel’s employee Darious Dunson performing CPR on an individual experiencing an overdose. After discovering the person in severe medical distress, Mr. Dunson had immediately contacted Anderson County dispatch and followed their emergency CPR instructions without hesitation.
Officer Daugherty administered Narcan and assisted with resuscitation. Thanks to this rapid, coordinated effort, the individual responded to the treatment and became fully responsive.
While it is the sworn duty of law enforcement and EMS personnel to intervene and preserve life, Mr. Dunson is a private citizen. He didn't just call for help and wait—he acted out of selfless urgency.
When a community member rises to the occasion like this, it changes everything. Minutes, and even seconds, matter immensely during an overdose or cardiac event. A private citizen willing to step up bridges the critical gap between the onset of an emergency and the arrival of first responders.
Mr. Dunson’s actions are a powerful reminder of how important we are to one another. True community safety isn't just about the uniforms on patrol; it’s about neighbors looking out for neighbors.
Please join us in thanking Darious Dunson for his quick thinking, courage, and compassion, as well as Officer Daugherty and our local emergency teams for their swift response! 👏👏
