Community indicators for Knoxville and the East Tennessee region.

ETindex was launched by the Knoxville Metropolitan Planning Council and the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization, with the support and advice of a number of regional organizations. The project aims to provide a common source of data and analysis on critical topics in order to inform community stakeholders, spur discussion and collaboration, and monitor and improve our quality of life.

New data has been posted for 20 indicators on ETindex.org. There is lots of new demographic information from the 2009-2013 American Community Survey as well updated information from the State's 2014 School report card. The complete list of updated indicators can be viewed below:

North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida, Tops Large Communities in Well-Being 04/08/2015

Not a great result for the Knoxville area in the 2014 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. Knoxville was ranked 98th out of the 100 most populous areas in an annual survey of self-reported well-being. The findings correlate the low scores reported by residents with higher rates of food insecurity, smoking and obesity. Lower rates of satisfaction with daily life and pride in community were also noted.

Wired magazine posted a story on a unique way of looking at the USDA Cropscape data. In the story, a London-based designer isolates individual crops, landscapes or vegetation to create beautiful maps of the US.
