The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued an Increased Fire Danger Statement for Sevier County for Saturday, March 28, due to dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds.
Sevier County officials advise that no open burn permits are being issued in Sevier County. Burn permits will remain paused until conditions improve. This is considered a burn restriction, not a burn ban.
Residents and visitors are asked to use extreme caution with any outdoor fire source. Low humidity and gusty winds can cause fires to spread quickly, even under controlled conditions.

Seymour neighbors, you may notice an increased presence of smoke and the smell of smoke in and around our area this evening. This is due to a prescribed burn taking place in Monroe County, with winds carrying smoke from the southwest into our area.

Yesterday afternoon, SeymourVFD was dispatched to a house fire in the White Oak subdivision. The first engine arrived seven minutes after dispatch, and crews were able to perform an interior attack and extinguish the fire within 15 minutes. The homeowners had kept their bedroom door closed, which helped prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the house. This event highlights the Tennessee Closed the Door campaign, which greatly assists in keeping fires contained to the room of origin.

Keep an eye out for our Winter mailer in your mailbox soon. It serves as a friendly reminder to donate and support Seymour Volunteer Fire Department. Your generosity makes a real difference in keeping our Tri-County community safe.

Tonight we honored a true hero in our community: Lieutenant McCurdy.

Lt. McCurdy graduated tonight from Knoxville Fire Department’s 18-week training academy and is now a full-time firefighter with KFD. But he doesn’t stop there—he continues to give back by volunteering with Seymour Fire.

His dedication, courage, and tireless service inspire us all. Proud of you, Lt. McCurdy—thank you for protecting our city and our neighbors. 🔥🚒

We have extra staff covering our response area this weekend and we hope you are able to safely enjoy the snow. If you don't need to get out, don't. Several reports of vehicles off the roadway in all three counties. Roads are slick in spots and will get worse as temps drop this afternoon/evening. With the lower temps remember to bundle up, especially those kids playing in the snow. Also use safe heater practices and don't overload circuits. Be safe out there.

The highway departments have done a great job with the main highways, and traffic seems to be moving well. Back roads and driveways are still very slick. Be safe out there this morning, and use safe driving practices if you have to get out.
