General information

**What is EarthFest?

EarthFest is a FREE annual celebration of Earth Day in the Knoxville area that promotes environmental awareness and opportunities for individuals to reduce their environmental footprint on East Tennessee. Since 1999 the event has grown in size and scope, initially attended by a couple thousand locals and now attracting over 5,000 attendees. Just ten years after its start, EarthFest appeared in United Airline’s Hemispheres magazine as a destination event, and it is now the premier Earth Day celebration in East Tennessee.

**Our Focus

EarthFest revolves around raising public awareness of environmental issues important to East Tennessee, such as clean air and water, sustainable transportation, waste reduction and recycling, and urban forestation. Attendees learn about sustainable lifestyle practices through demonstrations and skill-sharing activities, and for the youth, our kids’ area brims with fun, hands-on activities throughout the day.

**Our Footprint

Our Zero Waste results are impressive—typically we produce less than five pounds of non-recyclable or compostable waste despite over 10,000 attendees. EarthFest received the prestigious Governor’s Stewardship Award for Environmental Education and Outreach. Thanks to our success in attracting exhibitors and sponsors, EarthFest is also able to give back to the community, donating proceeds to fund activities such as the purchase of plants and trees in the James Agee Park and funding community creek clean-up programs.

**Our Exhibitors

EarthFest attracts exhibitors from around the Southeast. They include non-profits, trade organizations, and local, state and federal agencies that are all working towards a healthier environment. We also have artisans selling their crafts and vendors providing a range of tasty foods.

**Our “Staff”

Earthfest is managed by the EarthFest Steering Committee, a dedicated group of volunteers and sponsors involving representatives from municipalities, corporations, academic institutions, media outlets, and environmental groups.
