‼️Lake Levels & Drought Update‼️
Despite some recent rainfall, much of the Tennessee Valley remains in severe or even extreme drought. Runoff, the portion of rainfall that makes its way into streams, rivers, and lakes, remains very low. In fact, runoff across the eastern Tennessee Valley is currently the fourth lowest in 152 years of recorded history.
To put that into perspective, the Valley has received an average of about 3½ inches of rain since Memorial Day weekend, but only about ½ inch has made its way into the river system as runoff.
In this update, TVA General Manager of River Management James Everett explains the current drought conditions, why lake levels are expected to gradually drift down through the summer, and what lake users should watch for while enjoying the water this season.

Behind the scenes at New Caledonia! 🎬🚧
Crews are hard at work installing rebar for the first combustion turbine and transformer foundations and preparing the water tank foundation for construction. These gas-powered units are taking shape to deliver an impressive 500 MW of reliable, low-cost energy to 250,000 homes in our region!
Hydropower has been part of our story since the beginning, and behind every dam is a team working every day to keep it operating safely and reliably.
Our Dam Safety team conducts detailed inspections and monitoring across our system of dams to help ensure they continue supporting electricity generation, flood control, navigation, recreation, water quality, and water supply across the region.
As National Dam Safety Awareness Day approaches this Sunday, Harrison and his team are part of the ongoing work helping keep our dams and communities safe.

Let's look back at our nuclear power story! ⚛️
We entered the nuclear power stage in 1974, when Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant began commercial operation, followed by Sequoyah in 1981 and Watts Bar in 1996.
Today, our three nuclear plants have a total of 7 reactors, which generate enough combined reliable energy to power about a third of our customers—more than 4.5 million homes and businesses. 🇺🇸

30 years ago today, Watts Bar Nuclear Unit 1 officially entered commercial operation. ⚡
Since May 27, 1996, the unit has helped deliver reliable, carbon-free electricity to the Tennessee Valley, powered by generations of skilled employees who built it, operated it, and continue to support it today. 🇺🇸
Today, Watts Bar’s two units generate enough energy to power more than 1.3 million homes.
Upgrades are underway near Watauga Dam! 🚧
We’re replacing the bridge that provides vehicle access to the dam and lake to improve safety and make visits easier for everyone. Completing this project also helps prepare for the potential transport of large equipment needed for future dam upgrades.
With summer just around the corner, we’re getting ready for an amazing outdoor season! ☀️
