Play is fundamental to early childhood development, fostering holistic growth across cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains. It enables children to explore, build relationships, manage emotions, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, essentially acting as their primary method of learning and understanding the world.

Physical activity in early childhood is vital for holistic development, building strong bodies and sharpens the mind while also fostering crucial social emotional skills like confidence, teamwork managing emotions and establishing healthy habits. It enhances brain function by increasing blood flow, improves motor skills, promotes better sleep, and boosts overall well-being, making it foundational for a child's future health and learning. A penguin race is a high-energy, simple, and fun activity for preschoolers that encourages motor skill development, coordination, and teamwork. Children "waddle" from one point to another, holding a ball or balloon between their knees, acting as a "penguin egg". It can be done individually, in teams, or as an obstacle course.

SHADES mission is to empower happy kids with skills for life. Children learn through interacting with others how to treat others and create the foundation for long lasting and meaningful relationships. Plus it's super fun when we match with our friends 😄😄

Our Fair Garden friends celebrated diversity this week as we explored all the things that make us special. They were able to describe themselves using several different identifying characteristics and/or unique qualities.

We are celebrating the new year at SHADES by learning about different ways people around the world celebrate. Our friends at Fair Garden learned about the Chinese New Year, and compared and contrasted American Celebrations and Chinese Celebrations. We can't wait to see what we explore today!

Here is a fun STEM activity you can do at home with your children, using things at home. All you will need is large marshmallows, hot chocolate, and 3 cups water at different temperatures.
You and your child will use the scientific method to determine what will happen to the marshmallows in different temperatures.
The 1st cup of hot chocolate will have HOT chocolate. The 2nd cup will have WARM chocolate. And the 3rd Cup will have COLD chocolate.
Have your children make predictions on what they think is going to happen, and test your theories out.
This is a fun and tasty way to engage your children in the scientific method and build their curiosity and problem-solving skills.
