Have you seen the latest in Burlington?

The City's first new Knoxville Fire station in 30 years, and a streetscape project to reinvigorate what had once been a thriving commercial strip in the heart of Burlington. Thanks to neighbors for their patience as these projects progress.

The City is looking to fill vacancies on the African American Equity Restoration Task Force (AAERTF).

The Task Force studies, reviews and identifies strategic solutions to improve areas of disparity and disenfranchisement in communities impacted by Urban Renewal. AAERTF focuses on small business development and entrepreneurship, home ownership, and workforce equity.

This volunteer committee meets quarterly, with members also participating in committees and subcommittees. More information about the AAERTF can be found at https://www.KnoxvilleTN.gov/EquityTaskForce.

Community members interested in serving on the AAERTF should email their name, contact information (including home address), and a bio or resume to [email protected] by Friday, June 26, 2026.

Great to cut a ceremonial ribbon and officially celebrate the opening of Iron Forge Brewing Co. - the first new outward-facing restaurant at Covenant Health Park!

Congratulations to the Iron Forge team for expanding, investing, and creating both jobs and local craft beers.

Iron Forge is located on the east side of the stadium, with entrances both from the east plaza and from Jackson Avenue. It's the first of at least seven new restaurants that have announced plans to open at or near Covenant Health Park.

Work is progressing on twinned City projects in Burlington โ€” the City's first new Knoxville Fire station in 30 years, and a streetscape project to reinvigorate what had once been a thriving commercial strip in the heart of Burlington.

Check out this WATE 6 drone aerial as well: https://www.wate.com/video/fire-station-construction-underway-in-knoxville/11846929/

The fire station is on schedule for substantial completion by the end of 2026. By July 4, the structural steel and roof joists will be in place. Then in July, crews will start framing the building's exterior and installing underground utility connections.

Meanwhile, Phase 1 utility work for the Burlington Streetscapes Project is underway. In conjunction with Knoxville Utilities Board, new sanitary sewer and water piping is expected to be online in the next month between Oakland and Fern streets. Installation of electrical, communications, and stormwater infrastructure began this week.

The streetscape project โ€” new tree-lined sidewalks on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between the Kirkwood Street and Holston Drive intersections, and on Prosser Road nearby, with relocated overhead utility lines โ€” is scheduled to be completed by summer 2027.

Combined, the fire station and streetscape projects are a $17 million City investment in Burlington.
