Great to share ideas on ways to improve connectivity between Downtown and South Knoxville!

C'mon down! This evening's drop-in public meeting continues until 7 p.m. at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay St.

The City and CDM Smith launched a study in May with an open house and an online survey. Today, attendees are expanding on the perspectives already shared by more than 500 people who have participated so far in the info-gathering process.

The focus is on lower-cost high-impact improvements that strengthen access and mobility. The study's findings will guide the City's future planning.

🌿🐝 Public Works Wednesday: Where Ecology Meets Public Works

There’s more to landscaping than meets the eye!

Our Public Service Department recently had the opportunity to connect with University of Tennessee students studying ecology and landscape strategies designed to enhance insect habitats.

During the visit, we highlighted our native wildflower and pollinator gardens along 11th Street, sharing how we’re transforming traditional landscaped areas into spaces that support bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

From selecting native plants to maintaining healthy habitats, it was a great opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications and demonstrate how Public Works supports biodiversity throughout Knoxville.

Because sometimes, making a difference in our community starts with something as small as a pollinator! 🦋

Mobile Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off!
Wed. 10/14 at Halls Convenience Center, 3pm - 6pm
Convenience Centers will NOT accept trash or garbage during these events.

Residents are invited to safely and responsibly dispose of old or unwanted chemicals, non-alkaline batteries and battery-powered devices at the next Mobile Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Halls Convenience Center (3608 Neal Drive).

The event will be held from 3-6 p.m. Convenience centers will not accept trash or recycling during the mobile HHW visits.
Like the City’s brick-and-mortar HHW and Solid Waste Facility – open six days a week at 1033 Elm Street – these mobile events are:

- open to all Tennessee residents, regardless of their County of residency, thanks to support from the State of Tennessee.

- open to households only; businesses, churches, non-profits and other groups should contact a permitted hazardous waste transporter for proper disposal.

- Easy as a drive-thru: stay in your car while staff members remove your materials for disposable and share printed information on the many resources available.

From acids and automobile oil to varnish and w**d killer, household materials with labels like toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable or irritant are accepted.

Today at the annual Employee Appreciation Luncheon, we celebrated the dedicated public servants who help make Knoxville better.

The event recognized employees reaching milestone years of service, including two remarkable team members celebrating 50 years of service to the City of Knoxville. Their commitment, along with the dedication of all those recognized today, reflects the passion and professionalism that help keep our city moving forward.
