Hey Hey Denton County,
📣 Applications are now open for the Denton County Saferoom Rebate Program!
Two years in the making, this program was developed following the May 2024 storms and strong community interest in safe room assistance. We are thankful to the Commissioners Court for approving the resolutions that allowed us to apply for and receive funding to help eligible homeowners improve their protection from tornadoes and other severe weather.
🏠 Rebate: 50% of eligible costs, up to $3,000 per approved safe room.
📅 Application period: October 12, 2026, through April 2027.
✅ Eligibility: Homeowners with eligible residential properties in participating areas of Denton County covered by our Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Funding is available for only 166 safe rooms. Applicants will be selected at random using a web-based random selection program and must meet all program requirements. Applying does not guarantee acceptance.
⚠️ Do not purchase, contract for, or install a safe room before receiving written approval from Denton County OEM. Previously installed safe rooms are not eligible. Participants must pay costs upfront and submit required documentation for reimbursement, which may take several months.
Safe rooms may be above or below ground and must meet applicable FEMA and ICC standards, along with permitting and inspection requirements. Selected applicants are expected to be notified in April and May 2027 and will receive specific deadlines and instructions.
