🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — We Remember.

Today, we remember and honor all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 — the innocent victims, firefighters, police officers, EMS providers, military personnel, and all the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost, the families and friends forever changed, and the countless heroes who ran toward danger to help others.

As a fire department, we hold a special place in our hearts for the 343 firefighters who never came home, along with the many other first responders who gave everything that day.

25 years later, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and their stories. It still hits the heart strings this many years later.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. God bless America. 🇺🇸

20 Years of Service. 20 Years of Sacrifice. 20 Years of Making a Difference.

Twenty years ago, Tom Paulson and Morris Welch answered a call to serve their community — never knowing just how much that decision would come to mean.

And shortly after surviving their first year on the department, they were faced with the historic floods of 2007 — an experience that tested our community and our department in ways few could have imagined. Yet, you stayed. You served. You kept showing up.

Over the past two decades, you guys have witnessed tremendous change in the Fire and EMS service — new equipment, new challenges, new faces, and even a global pandemic (uff da!). Through it all, you have continued to answer the call and give your time, energy, and heart to this community.

Tom, a special thank you for taking on a title and responsibility that not many have the opportunity to accomplish or attain. You bravely took on the challenge of leading our department for 9 years (2015-2024) as our fire chief. That title came with countless responsibilities, difficult decisions, long hours, and a commitment that often extends far beyond the fire station.

The service you both have provided meant more than responding to calls. It has meant being part of a team, giving back to your community, supporting your fellow firefighters, and making a difference simply because you were willing to show up.

Twenty years of service is an incredible accomplishment, and we are incredibly thankful for every year, every call, every sacrifice, and every moment you gave to this department and our community.

Thank you for answering the call. Huge thank you for the sacrifices your family made alongside you (Dani, Caroline, Thomas & Jill, Jack & Joey). Thank you for your commitment, your dedication, and your service to our community by supporting your heroes.

Tom & Morris, enjoy your well-deserved retirement. You have already hung up your gear and turned in your pager, time to relax and have some time for yourself and your family. We’ll take it from here.

With sincere gratitude and respect,
Thank you for 20 years of service ❤️

Love, Your LCFD Family

La Crescent Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle fire near La Canna after smoke and flames were seen in the engine compartment by the occupant. The occupant was able to safely exit the vehicle and sustained no injuries. Unfortunately, the fire quickly spread, resulting in the vehicle becoming fully engulfed and a complete loss.

Prior to the arrival of fire crews, law enforcement personnel utilized multiple fire extinguishers in an effort to control the fire.

Approximately 300 gallons of water with the incorporation of Class A foam extinguished the fire within a matter of minutes. Fire crews were on scene for approximately 23 minutes before clearing the incident. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined.

🇺🇸Happy 4th of July from the La Crescent Fire Department!

Celebrate our nation’s birthday, make great memories, and most importantly—have fun, but be safe!

Here are a few fireworks safety reminders:

🎇 Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.

🧨 Only use legal fireworks in a safe, open area and follow all instructions.

👨‍👩‍👧 Adult supervision is essential—never let children handle fireworks.

💦 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire.

🚫 Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it in water before disposing of it.

🌾 Keep fireworks away from dry grass, brush, buildings, and vehicles.

🐶 Remember that fireworks can be stressful for pets—keep them indoors in a safe, quiet place.

🔥 Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

✨ Sparklers burn at temperatures of up to 2,000°F and can cause serious burns. Consider glow sticks as a safer alternative for young children.

🚒 If a fire starts or someone is injured, call 911 immediately.

Let’s all do our part to keep this Independence Day safe for our families, friends, neighbors, and first responders.
