Public Service Announcement: The City of La Grande is working on a water main relocation project which has changed the flow of the water system. When dramatic changes happen in the municipal water distribution system, it stirs up sediment that is generated in the disinfection process of the water. Water will have a dirty look but remains disinfected and free of bacteria.

It is suggested that if you encounter dirty water from your tap that you run your water until it clears up. This may take up to 15 minutes (or longer) depending on the City's overall water usage. Try to only run cold water and use an outside faucet is possible. If you have any questions, feel free to call Public Works at (541) 962-1325.

Public Service Announcement:

21st Street from Cove Avenue to East L Avenue will be closed tomorrow (Thursday, August 20, 2026) for placement of a fog seal on the roadway. The closure is currently anticipated to last from 10 am to 12 pm but may be extended if work does not progress as expected.

Please avoid the area during the closure as no access on 21st Street is available during the placement and curing of the fog seal. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Public Works as (541) 962-1325.

City Staff will be completing an emergency sewer repair on Y Avenue tomorrow (June 30, 2026) and will need to close the roadway to complete the work safely. The roadway will be closed at 7:00 AM and will reopen when work is completed. The work is anticipated to be completed around 2:00 PM. Crews will close Y Avenue between North 4th Street and North Ash Street for all traffic.

Public Service Announcement: On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, North 2nd Street will be closed from Division to Blackhawk Trail for the installation of a new sewer service line. The closure will last from 7 am until the work is completed. It is anticipated that the closure will last through Wednesday afternoon. On Monday, March 2nd, C Avenue from 2nd Street to Cedar Street will be closed for installation of a new sewer service line. The closure will last from 8 AM until work is completed but is anticipated to be done by 2 PM. Please plan to use other routes during this time. Downtown Sidewalk Work Taking Place on Adams Avenue Today, December 29, 2025:

A contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be completing some preliminary investigation work for the upcoming ADA curb-ramp upgrades. The work will include the drilling of multiple sidewalks sites and will require some short-term sidewalk closures. The work will not impact any travel lanes or parking on Adams Avenue, although will require some temporary sidewalk detours. Signage will be placed to provide guidance on where it is safe to walk during the work.
