This afternoon, just prior to dismissal, a student reported that he was feeling unwell while under direct supervision in our front office. Our school nurse and school resource officer responded, and EMS transported the student to the hospital out of an abundance of caution for further evaluation. The student’s family was notified.

Emergency vehicles were parked in the front circle during dismissal, so we adjusted our dismissal locations to give first responders room to work. Students were dismissed at the normal time from a pep rally in the gym to their buses and the carpool area without any disruption or adjustments to our regular school day.

Thank you to our staff and first responders for their assistance, and to our students and families for their cooperation during dismissal.

What a great week it has been at E.B. Frink Middle School! Ms. Jones’s eighth-grade ELA students are maximizing digital learning by creating Hero’s Journey narratives using Pages, incorporating images, and designing their own characters with Hero Forge website. Students will also have the option to bring their characters to life through 3D printing. Mrs. Sadowski and Mr. Eckes’s WIN group has also been exploring creativity through stop-motion animation.

The first grading period ended Friday, October 23, which was a teacher workday. Teachers spent the day finalizing grades and preparing for instruction as we get ready to begin the second nine weeks. Report cards will go home Wednesday, October 28.

Lenoir County’s Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma selected Lily Hartsell for their Buzzing Bee Beginning Teacher Award this month. According to Mrs. Jessica Murphy, who presented the award: “Ms. Hartsell exhibits qualities of an exceptional educator. She received a bag filled with treats, teaching supplies, as well as a certificate of recognition, and a brochure about Delta Kappa Gamma. A brief write-up and picture will be featured soon on NeuseNews.com.

This Week in Athletics:
Our volleyball team fell at home to rival Woodington Middle School, while our football team continued its winning streak with an impressive 40–0 victory over Jones Middle School. Congratulations Cavaliers!

Looking Ahead:
Next week is shaping up to be a productive and busy one! Students will take the Reading Check-In A on Tuesday, October 27. Please remind students to bring their iPads to school fully charged that morning. Our volleyball team will be back on the home court Monday against Rochelle and Wednesday against Contentnea-Savannah. On Thursday, October 29, we will hold a student pep rally before our home football game against CSS at 6:00 p.m. at North Lenoir High School. Come out and support our Cavaliers!

Let’s show some school spirit next week! Ps. No skates on Monday.
