Summer Card Parties
In 1956–1957, the Club recommended continuing summer card parties to help raise money for building maintenance. Members were encouraged to publicize the parties, make personal contributions, and a telephone committee was formed to remind members to attend.
It’s a charming glimpse of Club life: social, practical, and collaborative.
Then as now, caring for the Clubhouse has always been something members do together.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth — a day of freedom, reflection, and remembrance.
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their freedom. It is a meaningful reminder of resilience, justice, and the ongoing importance of learning from our shared history.
May this day inspire reflection, connection, and continued commitment to a more inclusive community.

Protecting the Stained-Glass Windows
Club records from 1956–1957 offer a small but fascinating glimpse into historic preservation at La Jolla Woman’s Club.
At the time, the stained-glass windows were no longer to be opened because heat, cold, and movement were damaging the lead and glass.
It’s a reminder that caring for a historic clubhouse often comes down to thoughtful everyday decisions — protecting the fragile details so they can be treasured for generations.
Stewardship has long been part of the Club’s legacy.

✨ Honoring Our History While Welcoming New Beginnings ✨
The La Jolla Woman's Club has been bringing women together since 1892 through friendship, service, leadership, and community involvement.
New members had the opportunity to learn about the Club's rich history, meet committee leaders, explore volunteer opportunities, and help carry forward the legacy of Ellen Browning Scripps and Irving Gill.
Following the presentation, members enjoyed beautiful refreshments from Supannee Thai Catering while mingling and getting to know one another.
🌺 Preserving a rich legacy while inspiring future generations of women leaders and community builders.

La Jolla Woman’s Club has a long tradition of serving the community — and that service has always included caring for the historic clubhouse that makes our work possible.
In 1956–1957, Club leaders reported improvements to the garage, kitchen, wicker furniture, and interior spaces, along with continued attention to building maintenance.
As recipients of Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation support, the Club continues the important work of preserving the building and grounds entrusted to us.
Stewardship has always been part of service.
