The Philmont 2016 crew (Rowan, Tyler, Brandon, Daniel, Nathan, Adam, Nick, Dillon, Nicolas, Alan, and Ton) has returned home safe and sound from their 12-day adventure in New Mexico!

They experienced all kinds of weather: sunshine, rain, hail, cold and hot temperatures, and fierce winds! In spite of this, they became a well-oiled crew and they completed a total of 100 miles of hiking, reached the summit of 12,441ft Baldy Mountain and enjoyed a large number of activities: mountain biking, pole climbing, gold panning, horseback riding, shooting, rock climbing, railroad maintenance, blacksmithing, and an excursion into a now-defunct gold mine.

Making it to Philmont is the pinnacle of every boy scout's career. It is beauty and adventure all wrapped up into one place. Congrats to everybody on this achievement.

Monday evening 7/11:
The Philmont crew has made it back to base camp today and has been enjoying pizza , ice cream, and soda.
Tomorrow morning we will take
the bus to the airport and are looking forward to seeing everyone again in SD.

Saturday 7/9:
The Philmont crew had a fantastic couple of days with a mine tour, black smithing, pole climbing, 'loggerball', horse riding and campfire shows.
The end of our trip is near. One more day on the trail and then back to base camp. Everyone is excited about eating real food again and returning back to SD.

All the Philmont crew updates so far:

Thursday 6/30:
Checked in to Philmont this morning and met our ranger Will. Picked up our gear and food and did last minute shopping. Daniel and Ton reviewed the itinerary with staff and lots of instruction on safety, first aid, trail etiquette etc. We ended the day with a campfire program about the history of Philmont. We are ready to start our track now!

Friday 7/1
Philmont Day 1: Today we arrived at Philmont. Our guide is named Will. Tomorrow we will be heading on a bus to the location where we will start hiking.

Sat morning 7/2 update:
Day 2, and first day of hiking yesterday. Very wet day but crew did admirably and is in very good spirits. Ready for day 3.

Sun morning 7/3:
Everybody having awesome time. Will send fb update later.

Sunday evening 7/3:
Long but fun day today. Not much rain today. Tomorrow mountain biking and trail work.

Monday evening 7/4:
Happy 4th of J from the Philmont crew to our families. We celebrated at Whiteman Vega camp with fun campfire. 2 days until Baldy. E-one in good spirits.

Another fun day today with MTB. Again a dry day today. A long trek for us ahead tomorrow. Everyone is doing very well.

Wednesday 7/6:
All is well. Tomorrow we will climb Mt. Baldly. Everyone is excited. Today we climbed a lot as well. Everyone did very well!

Thursday 7/7:
The Philmont crew just reached the summit of Baldy Mountain and saw the sunrise. It was extremely windy but everyone is ok and we are on our way back to camp. See you all in a few days!

Update from Nick:
Just got down from Baldy and it was very windy. It was so windy that it was hard to walk without falling over. Everyone is ok

Question for crew:
Sounds like Mt. Baldy was adventurous. Made it down okay? Still good spirits by all??

Update/answer 7/8:
Yes! was really fun

Trip reports from Adam. Everybody is doing great. Tomorrow we are boarding the bus to Philmont.

We have left for Philmont!! See you in two weeks.
