The AS Office of External Affairs shall work to educate the UC San Diego student body about issues regarding higher education and provide students opportunities to engage with other UC campuses and state and federal stakeholders. The Office shall serve to advocate for the enhancement of the University of California system through efforts of its own and those of the University of California Student
Association. The Office of External Affairs shall achieve these means through working with multi-campus partners, legislators, and others and shall oversee the efforts of the Office of Local Affairs, the Student Organized Voter Access Coalition, and the Triton Lobby Corps. The AS Office of Local Affairs shall work to engage in local community outreach by initiating dialogue between members of the UC San Diego community and local stakeholders. The Office shall facilitate communication between students, administrators, local and regional legislators, and community members to sustain a productive relationship on local political, social, indigenous, and economic issues. The Office of Local Affairs shall work to achieve the goal of engaging local community outreach through the initiation of programs, campaigns, and development projects and work to represent the UC San Diego community in local associations across the greater San Diego community. Student Organized Voter Access Coalition shall serve as the primary non-partisan student-run committee for voter registration on the UCSD campus. Triton Lobby Corps shall work to educate students, the AS Assembly, university officials, and lawmakers on how issues directly impact students. Members of the ASUCSD Office of External Affairs shall also serve as Board Members of the University of California Student Association (UCSA). UCSA is a coalition of students and student governments that aims to provide a collective voice for all students through advocacy and direct action. UCSA participates in the shared governance of the University of California system, and seeks to advance higher education by empowering current and future students to advocate on their own behalf for the accessibility, affordability, and quality of the University of California system.
