THIS SATURDAY - October 17th: Be part of the first-ever Mini Mesa - a free, one-day civics lab for La Mesa students in grades 6–8 who live in or attend school within La Mesa city limits.

Mini Mesa is a live simulation of how the city works. Students are assigned to small “pods,” each representing a real La Mesa agency or stakeholder group. Throughout the day, students will:

• Learn what their assigned agency actually does and what authority it has
• Analyze the shared fact pattern and identify their agency’s interests and concerns
• Negotiate with other pods, build alliances, and work through tradeoffs
• Prepare a brief presentation taking a clear position
• Participate in a mock City Council meeting where kids run the dais, present, give public comment, and vote on an outcome

The goal is for students to leave with a more concrete understanding of how local government works, how different agencies and community voices fit together, and how real decisions get made.

Mini Mesa is free, with lunch, snacks, and all materials provided (including a keepsake from the day). Space is limited. Secure your spot by emailing: [email protected]
