Yesterday I got to celebrate Maggie Sleeper, a friend & outgoing Chief of Staff to Supervisor Joel Anderson, as she leaves the public sector for an opportunity in the private sector. I have known Maggie for my entire career — both of us got our start in the Team Anderson Internship Program. Maggie has done a tremendous amount of work for the City of La Mesa as Joel Anderson has long represented our City until recently. Thank you for your service, Maggie!

Today makes 160 years since the last enslaved people in the United States learned they were free. The La Mesa Juneteenth Foundation was founded in 2022 and hosts educational events each year serving La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Spring Valley! Congratulations on a successful pancake breakfast this morning.

Today was La Mesa’s Flag Day Parade, a celebration of the values our flag is meant to represent: liberty and justice for all. 🇺🇸

Across San Diego County, thousands also peacefully marched for No Kings Day, a powerful reminder that true patriotism means holding our nation accountable to its highest ideals.

We celebrate the flag not because we’ve achieved a perfect union, but because we continue striving for one. Liberty and justice aren’t just words — they’re a promise. And it’s up to all of us to make them real.

This morning we raised the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag at La Mesa City Hall for the 5th year in a row. Raising the Pride flag each year renews our promise: hate has no place in La Mesa — not in our policies, our streets, or our future. 🏳️‍🌈 thank you to all of the elected representatives, community members, and faith leaders for being a part of this celebration! 🎉
