Our amazing, smart, and witty Irene turned 101 on the first. Here’s a few pictures from her party. The video is a little long, but it’s amazing how two women can have a conversation about gambling at casinos… they are both totally with it, and I love it!!

Having a senior care home makes me realize how precious life is, and how valuable time is. This last Saturday one of my residents was asking how my recent vacation was.  She was a lovely woman who was mentally with it, however, was in bed most of the time due to being tethered to a high amount of oxygen.  I sat next to her and showed her the pictures from my trip and told her all about  the wonderful things I did and saw. She was so delighted and had the biggest smile throughout it all.  I really enjoyed spending that time with her and I knew she enjoyed it also.
I got the most unexpected call at 5 AM Sunday morning, saying that  she had passed. I couldn’t go back to sleep. No one was expecting this! I’m so glad I spent that time with her Saturday… 

When I was a foster parent, the teenagers I had living with me never seemed to appreciate anything. Now though, I am the most amazing, fantastic person in the world when I bring Arby’s sandwiches, and orange cream shakes for lunch!


Tonight I had to share my obsession with the ladies. One of the things on my bucket list is to go to a Texas roadhouse in every state,  so it was a Texas roadhouse kind of night!  Everyone ate everything and especially liked the rolls with the honey cinnamon butter! I think this is going to be a once a month treat!!

This is what being a caregiver can be all about, especially if you’re caring for a loved one at home.

They say all good things must come to an end… I guess it’s true for people also. Our wonderful, amazing, feisty, 101 year old Paula, passed away Friday night after a short illness. It was peacefully in her sleep. Paula lived life to the fullest all of her years. We will miss her wit and humor as well as her stories. During the day Friday she was speaking about getting her nails and hair done, we told her they still look great!  We were truly blessed to have her with us a year, she brought so much joy to all of the staff and our other residents. Rest in peace our dear Paula!
