One fall changes everything.

Most families don't start looking for help until after something happens β€” a fall, a hospital stay, a call from a neighbor. By then you're making decisions fast, under pressure, with fewer options.

A few things worth checking on your next visit: loose rugs and cords in walkways, burned-out bulbs in hallways and stairwells, grab bars in the bathroom, whether they're holding furniture to move from room to room.

If you're seeing more than one of these, it may be time to talk. We're happy to answer questions even if you're not ready for care yet.

Meet the people behind the care.

When you call our office, one of these faces is on the other end of the line. They build the schedules, match caregivers to families, answer the phone at 2am, and keep everything running so our caregivers can focus on your loved one.

Locally owned, right here in Thurston County β€” serving families across Thurston, Lewis, and Mason Counties since 2008.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is not about thanks for service rendered β€” it is about honoring those whose service cost them everything. Behind every name on a stone, every folded flag, every empty seat at the table, is a family that carries that loss every single day.

To the Gold Star families in our community: we see you. To the veterans who came home carrying the memory of brothers and sisters who didn't: we honor them through you. And to the more than half of our clients and family who wore the uniform β€” your service, and the service of those you lost, will never be forgotten.

Did you know up to 80% of strokes are preventable?

May is National Stroke Awareness Month. Earlier this month we shared the FAST warning signs β€” today, let's talk about what can lower stroke risk in the first place.

Simple daily habits that protect against stroke:
🩺 Monitor blood pressure β€” high blood pressure is the #1 controllable risk factor.
πŸ’Š Take medications consistently β€” skipped doses add up.
πŸ₯— Eat heart-healthy meals β€” more vegetables, less salt and processed food.
🚢 Stay active β€” even gentle daily movement helps.
πŸ’§ Stay hydrated β€” especially important for older adults.
😴 Prioritize good sleep.
❀️ Stay connected β€” loneliness affects heart health, too.

For families caring for an aging parent or spouse, keeping these habits going day after day can be hard. That's where we come in. Our caregivers help with medication reminders, meal prep, mobility, appointment transportation, and the daily companionship that makes healthy routines easier to maintain.
If you'd like to learn more about how in-home care supports a healthier life for your loved one, we're here.

At 75, she picked up a paintbrush for the first time.
At 80, he finally took that trip he'd been talking about for decades.
At 88, she learned Zoom β€” just to read bedtime stories to her grandkids.

Dreams don't have an expiration date.

What's a "someday" you've been holding onto β€” or one you're helping someone you love chase?

Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Visiting Angels Olympia. πŸ’

Today we celebrate the women who shaped us β€” mothers, grandmothers, aunts, mentors, and chosen family. The ones who taught us, comforted us, and showed us what love looks like in action.

For many of the families we serve, Mother's Day looks a little different now. Maybe Mom needs more help these days. Maybe you're the one making the calls, managing the medications, and showing up to make sure she's okay. That kind of quiet, daily, hands-on love is no small thing.

To every mother being celebrated today, every adult child caring for an aging mom, and every caregiver on our team who loves the families they serve like their own β€” thank you.

Wishing you a Mother's Day filled with love, laughter, and a few moments of peace. ❀️

Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
To the husbands and wives who hold down the home front β€” managing households, raising children, supporting family, and keeping life moving while their service member is deployed or away β€” thank you. Your strength is its own kind of service.

At Visiting Angels Olympia, the military community runs through every part of who we are. More than half of the clients we serve are veterans, often cared for by the spouses who've stood beside them through every chapter. And many of the staff on our care team are military spouses themselves β€” bringing the same dedication, flexibility, and heart to the families we serve that they bring to their own.

To every military spouse β€” those we serve, those we work alongside, and those throughout our community β€” your love, patience, and quiet courage do not go unnoticed.
Thank you for everything you carry. ❀️

Sofie's Tips: A May Reset
Hi everyone, it's Sofie! May is the sweet spot of spring β€” flowers blooming, longer days, and the perfect time for a mid-season reset. Here are a few of my favorite ways to refresh:
Your space: Tackle one room at a time, open the windows, and give everything a proper home. (My toys live in their own basket β€” very tidy!)
Your routine: Plan your meals, get to bed earlier, and build a morning routine you actually look forward to.
Your mindset: Let go of what's weighing you down. Practice a few minutes of mindfulness or deep breathing each day. Schedule the massage. Take the long bath. (And accept all belly rubs offered.)
Your fun: Plant something, explore a new walking trail, play music that makes you move, and spend time with the people β€” and pups β€” who light you up.
May is the heart of spring. What's one small change you'll make this month? 🌷🐾

May is National Stroke Awareness Month.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in adults β€” but recognizing it early can save a life. Every minute counts.
Remember FAST:
F β€” Face Drooping. Ask them to smile. Does one side droop?
A β€” Arm Weakness. Ask them to raise both arms. Does one drift down?
S β€” Speech Difficulty. Is their speech slurred or hard to understand?
T β€” Time to Call 911. If you see any of these signs, call right away.
At Visiting Angels Olympia, our caregivers are trained to recognize the warning signs of stroke and other emergencies in the homes we serve. If you have an aging loved one, take a moment this month to share FAST with everyone in their circle of care β€” family, friends, and neighbors.
When in doubt, call. It's always better to act fast. ❀️
