Lacey's 60th Anniversary — 50 days away! When the current Lacey Police Department (LPD) station opened in 1985, it was meant to support 25 officers and a population of 15,000.

Since then, our police department has grown to 72 sworn officers, 4 Community Service Officers, 11 professional staff, and 29 volunteers, and our population is now over 60,000. All 116 employees still operate out of the same 1985 building (with some improvements). Needless to say, our LPD needed a larger space.

In the last 10 years, we're proud to have secured funding (through existing funds and bonds, with no new taxes) to build a new station for our LPD officers, staff, volunteers, and the community.

The new LPD station includes:
- ADA improvements
- community-engagement spaces for events and meetings
- safe spaces for custody exchanges and e-commerce transactions
- comfortable interview rooms that offer privacy for victims and witnesses
- safe, secure rooms to interview suspects
- enhanced spaces for safe evidence handling and storage
- improved training areas with designated spaces for classroom-based training, work out/physical training areas, and fi****ms training
- and much, much more.

Our LDP staff is close to moving into their new station! Earlier this year, we gave community tours at our Cops, Cars, and Kids event, and we're excited to announce a grand opening once details are confirmed.

Lacey's 60th Anniversary — 51 days away! This year, a community favorite event celebrated its 30th anniversary. Lacey in Tune brings live music, dancing, and children's entertainment to Huntamer Park every summer.

Thanks to our Lacey Parks staff and community support, we've continued this tradition for 30 years. We've seen couples dancing to the classics on the lawns, attendees singing along to a Taylor Swift tribute band, and children astonished during magic shows. It's a highlight for us to see how much joy we've brought to families of all sizes.

Lacey in Tune is over for the season, but check back next year to kick off another year! Tune back in tomorrow for your next Lacey highlight as we count down to our 60th anniversary!

Fall has officially arrived and with it comes falling leaves and rain. If your neighborhood has lots of leaves, help reduce the chance of local flooding by making sure they aren’t clogging storm drains. If you find a storm drain that’s covered or clogged with debris, use a rake or broom to clear it.

Other things to keep in mind:

🍂 Never blow or sweep yard debris into the roadway.
🍂 Use leaves to mulch planting beds to provide winter protection for plants.
🍂 Dispose of leaves in your organics cart or compost pile.
🍂 Maintain gutters, downspouts, rain barrels, etc. by keeping them cleared of debris and directed away from properties or hillsides.

If you see major flooding or cannot clear a drain, call our Public Works Department at (360) 491-5644 during business hours or (360) 704-2740 after hours.

Lacey's 60th Anniversary — 52 days away! Our diversity makes our community stronger. Lacey is vibrant, resilient, and thriving because of the many backgrounds, experiences, cultures, talents, and perspectives of our 60,000+ community members! That's why we created our Commission on Equity (COE).

In 2021, the Lacey City Council established this commission to:
- identify and advance opportunities that create a more welcoming community
- continue critical conversation on race and equity.
- encourage greater participation from underrepresented community members.
- identify what barriers exist that prevent residents from participating in their community's policymaking.

Learn more about the COE, its members, and upcoming meetings at CityofLacey.org/COE.

Tune back in tomorrow for your next Lacey highlight as we continue our countdown to our 60th anniversary!
