Important Clarification Regarding Our Annual Trunk or Treat! 🚨🎃

The Lacona Fire Department would like to clear up some confusion regarding our annual Trunk or Treat event. Our event at the Firemen’s Pavilion is separate from the event being held at the VFW.

To preserve this long-standing tradition, vehicles will be parked under the pavilion in case of inclement weather, with the overhead lights turned off to maintain the spooky Halloween atmosphere. We will continue serving free hot dogs and c***r, as we have for decades, and the bathrooms will be open for attendees.

🆘 We need our community’s support to make this event a success! We are looking for more community members to decorate their trunks and hand out candy to the children. If you can participate, please contact Penny or Dylan to reserve your spot. We are also still accepting candy donations. 🆘

If you have any questions or concerns, please comment below or contact Chief Kimball directly.

Thank you for continuing to support the Lacona Fire Department and helping us keep this special Halloween tradition alive for the children in our community!

🚨 FIRE ALERT 🚨

On October 3, 2026, at approximately 1:33 PM, the Lacona Fire Department Inc. was dispatched by the Oswego County 911 Center for a reported large outdoor fire in the area of County Route 22 and Center Road in the Town of Sandy Creek, within the Lacona Fire District.

Lacona responded with the following apparatus:

• 13-0-1 — Chief
• 13-0-2 — Assistant Chief
• 13-7-1 — Brush Truck
• 13-5-1 — Tanker
• 13-2-1 — Engine

Upon arrival, crews located a large pile of rubbish and debris actively burning along the side of an approximate 50-foot embankment. The fire had also extended into surrounding vegetation and trees.

Lacona Command requested a tanker from the Sandy Creek Fire Department to provide additional water supply. A loader was also provided by the property owner and utilized to assist firefighters with exposing and extinguishing the burning debris.

Crews worked to fully extinguish the fire and ensure the area was adequately checked for remaining hot spots.

Lacona units returned to service at approximately 3:57 PM.

The Lacona Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Sandy Creek Fire Department and the New York State Forest Rangers.

25 years later, we continue to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families and communities forever changed that day.

We honor the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call with courage and selflessness. We especially remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others.

Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to service will never be forgotten.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🚨FIRE ALERT🚨

On September 7, 2026, at approximately 2:47 AM, the Lacona Fire Department Inc., along with automatic mutual aid companies were dispatched by the Oswego County 911 Center to a reported structure fire at 60 Wheat Hill Drive in the Town of Sandy Creek, within the Lacona Fire District. Initial reports indicated that one occupant was trapped on the third floor of the residence.

Lacona Fire Department responded with 13-2-1 (Rescue Pumper), 13-4-3 (Tanker Pumper), 13-5-1 (Tanker), and 13-0-1 (Chief).

Upon the arrival of first-arriving personnel, the three story, wood-framed residence was found to be fully involved in fire. A second alarm was declared, bringing additional fire resources to the scene.

It was subsequently determined that the sole occupant had exited the residence by jumping from a third-story window. The occupant was located by emergency personnel and transported to a Syracuse-area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fire suppression operations were immediately initiated, utilizing the deck gun on 13-2-1, followed by the deployment of multiple handlines from several engines. Due to the incident occurring in an area without fire hydrants, multiple portable water tanks were deployed and a tanker shuttle operation was implemented. The primary water supply site was established at the intersection of County Route 22 and County Route 15 in the Village of Lacona, allowing tanker operations to continuously supply water to the engines operating on scene, as well as the ladder truck from Pulaski Fire Department.

During fire suppression and overhaul operations, crews were able to safely enter the attached garage and remove several items that had not been damaged by fire, including multiple four-wheelers, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and lawn mowers.

Due to the extent of the fire and resulting damage, Lacona Command requested an excavator to the scene to assist with extensive overhaul operations following extinguishment of the main body of fire.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Lacona Fire Department remained committed to the incident for nearly six hours, returning to service at approximately 8:43 AM.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU

The members of the Lacona Fire Department would also like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to The Huckleberry Cafe for once again supporting our first responders.

Huckleberry Cafe prepared fresh breakfast sandwiches for the crews who remained on scene into the late morning hours. This is certainly not the first time Huckleberry Cafe has stepped up to support our members and other emergency personnel during an incident, and their continued generosity does not go unnoticed.

Community support like this means a great deal to the men and women who spend long hours away from their families serving others.

From all of us at the Lacona Fire Department - Thank you.
